So what percentage of the population is reported?

I think about 50k pure Jews live in Mexico. Almost all in Mexico City, so about 1/200 people from Mexico City are Jewish. I think they have more Jews than Chinese living there.

Only the reported number as many more are mixed and many don't even know they're Jewish, so that number is probably even more. As there are only 15 million total Jews worldwide, 50k is a significant concentration of their population. Definitely one of the higher populations of Jewish people in the world. That's why I don't think the Mexican President being at least part Jewish is surprising: Mexican President from Mexico City seems normal/modern (8 of the last 15 Mexican Presidents are from there) and many Jews live in Mexico City.

Regarding subjectively, I have a few Mexican friends who did 23andme who also have Ashkenazi DNA. Saw one of their relative map awhile ago and not surprising, many live in Mexico. I'm sure they never identify as Jewish on any census though.
