Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo (born 24 June 1962)[1] is a Mexican politician, scientist, and academic who is currently the President-elect of Mexico. She is a member of the left-wing political party Morena.[2] Sheinbaum served as Head of Government of Mexico City, a position equivalent to that of a state governor, from 2018 to 2023. She was a candidate for President of Mexico in the 2024 Mexican general election. When she was elected, she became the first female president of the country.
MORENA describes itself as a democratic left-wing party that supports ethnic, religious, cultural, and sexual diversity, respect for human rights, and environmental care. It describes itself as an opponent of the neoliberal economic policies that Mexico began adopting in the 1980s. MORENA states that a new economic model is needed after the failures of neoliberalism in Mexico, which has resulted in increased corruption and inequality. The party supports "development through private and social business, promoting market competition, but exercising State responsibility in the strategic activities which the Constitution states", and proposes "a model that strengthens the inner market, fair wages; a model that promotes syndical freedom and democracy, where the State doesn't intervene in the inner affairs of the trade organizations".[64][65]

Same party as previous president who was apparently popular. She has a phD and has written about climate change in her capacity as a scientist. This is a rational thinker that wants to reign in big business. Cac America ain't gon like this :francis:

Mexico is a potential manufacturing powerhouse on the same level as India or China. It's average age is young, there are millions of them and the only thing stopping more businesses from investing is cartel violence. Cartel violence will lessen if some of their profits are cut into via legalization. If this party's social programs are successful, there will be less people who will be driven to use hard drugs and more people getting treatment.

Wild to me that Mexico has a female president first, and not only that has gone back to back with an actual progressive party. Wish her luck. If they unlock this country's potential, they'll be a big winner when it comes to the green rush and EV manufacturing.

When you see Mexico elect a smart, progressive candidate… and then you look at the options between Biden and Trump. :francis:
america isn't a democracy despite what we preach down to the actual electoral college, look who has been elected with that system alone.

it's run by corporate interests and rich people at every level.

no pazzy

Funny how liberal America has yet to elect a female president but third world, patriarchal countries like Mexico, Jamaica, Pakistan, and Liberia have elected female heads of state before the United States.

She’s also has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Physics and has her PhD in Energy Engineering by the way.

Not to mention other talents.

What do our “big brain” U.S Presidents major in? We're literally choosing between a moron and someone with signs of dementia.

She's the smartest leader in all of North America already for at least the next 6 years, maybe the smartest ever. It’s like when Singapore elected the Senior Wrangler, First Class Mathematician as Prime Minister and ran the country in the right direction for 20 years. It'll be a challenge with a big country, but she's smart.
