ofcourse not

but Meek Mill making a statement like that is actually a testament to the fear that White Supremacy has instilled in Black people

here you have a non-significant rapper when it comes to politics and even he is scared to speak out

Its actually a pretty sad statement

I mean look at it from his perspective, he's a famous well known person

Millions of eyeballs are on him, and we all know that there's such a thing as the Hip Hop Police

It can be pretty intimidating to speak out

Trust me, Meek Mill aint the only famous Black person that is scared to make political statements

Allot of brothers and sisters in the spotlight know the deal, but they are scared of speaking out

plus you also gotta factor in that on a subconscious (and maybe even conscious) level

Black folks know that being rich and black in America is a privilege that can be taken from you at any moment

"if you get out of line"

This is why Oprah had to go all the way to Africa to build a school for Black people

because if she would've done something majorly significant like that here in the U.S

she would've appeared to "radical".....doing it in Africa is ok because Africa is looked at as a basketcase so everybody helps out Africa

even Jay-Z when he did that water project in Africa.....you dont see him doing something majorly significant for Black people here in the U.S?

Anyways, I went on a little rant, but I feel Meek Mill

Why cant you be happy they are helping black people who actually need it the most ?

Africa has real poverty and shows the true face of western imperialism.

They don't have to do anything for the black American community...

There are more opportunities to ascend income classes here than anywhere in the world. Self reliance >>>>> enabling inaction

He should have just said thats not his lane and kept it moving. The answer he gave is idiotic. Off the top of my head i can name a couple rappers that dropped politics in their rhymes and nothing has happened to them, Ice Cube, KRS-One, Lupe, Mos Def, Common, and Public Enemy are still walking around.

1) He's being honest

2) Being political =/= being pro-black, addressing white supremacy, or even talking about social injustices. Those subjects can cross over into political issues i.e. talking about the government's involvement, policies, or political leaders in relation to those subjects.

3) This isn't an instance of cowering under the pressure of a label or white people. Being political could very well cause him to alienate fans and. It happened to Lupe Fiasco when he called President Obama a terrorist. Whether you agree with him or not, there's a lot of people who support Obama and wouldn't stand for someone being critical of him.

4) You have to be knowledgeable of what you're talking about in regard to politics. You can't just say something to be saying it, because you're taking a stance that you have to be ready to eloquently to defend when challenged.

Politics is not limited to governmental matters or electoral politics... Anything that has to do with power in society is political. Even the "apolitical" is political because it is more or less a tacit endorsement of the status quo.

I didn't say it was limited to governmental matters or electoral politics. I'm merely pointing out that being political doesn't include discussing some of the things that are being associated with it.
