Math Hoffa cohost says if lyricism was the thing like back in the days Kendrick Lamar wouldn’t be up there like that .

This doesn't make sense when Pac was so popular you have morons insisting he could have been president or he was some kind of revolutionary.

I think Math and his crew are probably too Jay-Z-brained where they're looking for double/triple ententres and punchlines. Papoose might be more lyrical to them but there's no arguing Lwndrick makes better music. A lot of this is salt from east coast folks cause I cant recall the last rapper that was as big as Kendrick that was close to as lyrical. Probably have to go oretty far back.
Jay is the big homie but of course they are. To them peak music is dj clue tape freestyles. Same with a lot of Larry’s from NY area

You think Pac and Kendrick have the same fanbase:patrice:?

The people who think Pacs music is goated, probably dont think Kendricks music is imo. Unless you have a diverse taste, which most hiphop listeners dont.
I honestly don't know, but that wasn't my point. My point was pac got popular despite not being lyrical/lyricists -- so being lyrical isn't a prerequisite to being a top rapper.

I'm more likely to run back A-Team hardhood classics than Kendricks new album, but I'm not going to be in denial about why maths boy feels the way he feels. :Manny:

I didn’t love this new album either but the man has a discography too. From S80 to Damn, that too me is like OutKast from 94 to 00, impeccable run

Where were these nikkas when Wayne was out here claiming to be the greatest with them leaned out weak multi's
Them dusty ass new Yorkers were probably hating too. Anything that's not NY is not considered hip hop to those gate keeping hatin mfs:scust: Hope the views were worth it for him.

Its East Coast hating on West Coast. Period.

Them nikkas need to stop reminiscing about the 90’s and stand behind one or two or three of their OWN highly skilled artists and maybe NY can be the bastion of Hip Hop legitimacy it once was.

Skyzoo JUST dropped an incredible album. I’m listening to it right now. I wonder if Math or Funk Flex or whoever will champion him as the epitome of lyricism.

I think guys like Kendrick and J Cole are dope for their era and peers, but a lot of you young fans don't realize that when a LYRICIST like Jay Z came in the game, nobody paid him any attention in 1996. If you go back just 6 year prior to that, guys like Grand Daddy IU and Masta Ace dropped iconic classic slept on debuts, got lost in the shuffle against guys like Kane, Rakim, KRS, Cube, G rap and LL that dropped the same year.

So yes Kendrick is a dope rapper, but he's dope for his era. And that aint no "hating" or whatever you mfers like to call it. I don't have a problem with KL at all, I just call it like I see it. When fans are more worried abut beats, hooks, and "he's real" more than lyrics, this is what you get from an era.
Explain this. What were artist worried about back then? :jbhmm:

And what was it specifically about "lyricism" back then that made it superior or made the competition more fierce? Are we talking word gymnastics?
Or are we talking messaging in the lyrics? I'm not so clear...:jbhmm:

I feel like people have different opinions on what we even mean as a lyricist so it’s hard to debate when I don’t know what we’re debating. Complex rhyme schemes and word play isn’t his biggest strength but he does have the ability to do it. He showed it at times in the battle just not as much as Drake did. But that criteria is not how I think most judge the GOATs. It’s a more overall skill set and music making IMO. So with that in mind he absolutely would be considered great in any era. Ice Cube was considered great back then so why wouldn’t Kendrick

It's like dudes that were saying Drake won the battle because he had better punchlines and one-liners than Kendrick. For a lot of people that's all they see as lyricism. I lean more towards picture painters like an Andre 3K, Nas, and Kendrick where they ain't dropping verses making you scrunch your face up but they have a level of depth and introspection in their lyrics that many just don't comprehend lyrics deep enough to fully grasp.
So do you view this as a bad thing? I feel like I’m looked at as “non hip hop” for thinking Drake performed better in the battle precisely for this reason. It’s weird to me that a party song with average bars beats a song with much better overall bars. To me the technical stuff rings off louder in a battle then it does when I wanna hear some overall great music.
