Hell we saw Carl Thomas floating on a makeshift boat in Houston during that hurricane, and all Diddy could say is "prayers up"

You boys are dumb & soft

Do Business Like You Mean It!

Nah man. F that.

It's understandable for young black kids from the ghetto to see another black dude who made it major, talks about family, etc., to be trusting of him. They're young & hungry. As black people we naturally look for others of us to trust b/c we've been done so wrong by other races.

It shouldn't be acceptable for Diddy to pull the wool over dudes eyes thru shady practices and fine print just because he uses his Blackness as a kinship. Alot of new artists get rooked into bad deals to start off with, but then get better deals once they continue on in their career. But Puff doesnt even do that.

It's one thing if Diddy straight up told them, "Ok, I'm gonna own all your publishing, you'll never make money here, here, and here...do you still want to sign?" But You know he didnt do that. And if you can't be that explicit in deals, then you're being shady.

This is too idealistic for me. Puff has spanned several eras of artist who keep coming to him because of what he can potentially do for them...bad business be damned

You interview for a job and they barely want to disclose what they’re willing to pay much less the work dynamic that awaits you

Everybody is as stupid as they want to be. We can’t plead the type of ignorance our parents may have when it comes to crack. We know Puff plays hard. At a certain point in the game you have to bring some business acumen to the table. nikkax will tell you how corrupt Puff is but conveniently leave out how their own actions have landed them in their current situations

Should Ferrari stop taking nikkax money because they have no concept of money? What about the jeweler? Gucci?

Where does it end?

Where is Michael Jackson now?

Pwople who are so concerned about the business, end up making sub par material and end up likr Birdman, Master P, Puff, or Jermaine Dupri......making an bunch of trendy songs that age POORLY.

But if you gonna say that, then cool... so nikkas should only care about the art when they realize they signed something they don't agree with years later. Since the business don't matter, even tho' they're entering the business. A lot of these dudes cry foul because they went into something only thinking of what it could do for them. They didn't care what percentage other people get, what part they're "supposed" to get, how to make it so they can still be compensated well in the future. They see 'record deal and money' and put their name on that paper in a heartbeat. And the wild part is, there's millions of stories before them that they could pay attention to and learn from, but they still go ahead and sign without knowing what they're signing. There's a saying: "you don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate." If they want shyt to be right, make sure it's right before you put your name on it.

Ferrari isn't loopholing and screwing you threw trickery. You either want the car or you don't. Same with Gucci..might be a bad investment but the deal is straight up.

Nobody is going back to puff now either. He hasnt done anything musically in a longass time.

as black ppl we shouldn't be fighting for equal opportunities to white execs just so we can join in on screwing nikkas over like they have. It doesn't have to be that way.

Put it this way, lets say Puff has a net worth of $634 million. What would it have hurt him to at most pay couple million here and there between his artists whose sales earned it over the past. So you go from $634 mil to maybe $624 mil. You aint starving but your ppl also arent either

The best way to explain recording and publishing for labels and artists is like the stock market. Like Puff does in the hot 97 interview about the Lox, he told angie Martinez he invested in D block. With Mase it could be looked at the same way, everyone looks at it in hindsight after they rich and famous and act like they were guaranteed millions. The music game is like lottery, it ain’t guaranteed.

Biggie, Lox, Mase or whoever had no value or worth before they signed deals with Puff. They had potential but Puff took them and invested in them and added value to make them worth millions.

Mase could of went his own route or another label but there was no guarantee he would of sold 4 million his first album, Puff took the risk on a Harlem kid.

Hypothetically speaking - If Mase is worth zero in 1996 and puff invests equity into him and makes him a brand name and mase is suddenly worth $10 million in 1998 then Puff owns stock (Mase) worth $10 million.

In 2020 if Mase’s publishing or catalogue is with $3 million today then it’s Puff’s choice to sell the stock in publishing or hold onto it for the highest bidder. Mase’s stock is part of a portfolio called Badboy, that is overall adds value to Puff’s network. If he just gives Mase his publishing back because they bro’s then he sets precedent and would have to do that for every artist in his catologue. As a business man he has consultants and advisors that help him make multimillion dollar decisions. So if you have $10 million dollars with of stock (Mase publishing) that you built from the ground up with your company and taking the risk with your money and someone (Mase) is coming to you saying sell it to me for $2 million, you going to lose money by giving your family money that’s not smart business.

Nah just don’t switch when it’s to your benefit. Mase and p had something in common, both condemned hip hop pretty much as a Devi’s music in front cacs and tried to slide back in
