Them Lo Lifes...
It has always been common knowledge that it was 250. Big himself said that.
I'm just saying what I read.

People lie for others to make shyt look sweet.

Like Puffy calling Biggie his best friend but charging him 300k for the publishing to party and bullshyt.

Then you got Mase coming in saying Puff only gave him 20k.

Believe what you will my breh.

It's very easy to speak a lie into truth for perception sake.

Also Puff must have been okay with it in Ms Wallace's book..

Nah man. F that.

It's understandable for young black kids from the ghetto to see another black dude who made it major, talks about family, etc., to be trusting of him. They're young & hungry. As black people we naturally look for others of us to trust b/c we've been done so wrong by other races.

It shouldn't be acceptable for Diddy to pull the wool over dudes eyes thru shady practices and fine print just because he uses his Blackness as a kinship. Alot of new artists get rooked into bad deals to start off with, but then get better deals once they continue on in their career. But Puff doesnt even do that.

It's one thing if Diddy straight up told them, "Ok, I'm gonna own all your publishing, you'll never make money here, here, and here...do you still want to sign?" But You know he didnt do that. And if you can't be that explicit in deals, then you're being shady.

I hope ya'll see how bad you make Black people sound with a statement like this. This is a BUSINESS. These exec's are not purposely exploiting people. You all are making it seem like we are all illiterate and handicapped signing these contracts. If they aren't reading and comprehending what they read, they are playing themselves.

Just because someone is telling you they have your best interests at heart and is offering you a "family", he is not responsible for you being gullible and naive. These people are old enough to know blood relatives will sell you out for a dollar, but you are trusting a complete stranger with your livelihood because you see opportunity without acknowledging that you are signing a contract. Basic knowledge tells you that you are obligated to give these labels something in exchange for something else. Put it this way, college students don't want to be paying for student loans forever. They just want an education, but it is agreed that they have to pay that money back. They can cry that it is unfair and that the interest and the overall cost of the loan is ridiculous, but it is the price you pay once you agree to it.

Yawn

Cmon breh. You know minorities are voting for someone who looks like them vs someone who doesn't bc the logic is this person will lookout for us. This is no different. We voted for Obama bc were enslaved and mistreated for 500yrs in America. That doesn't make us dumb.

Like it or not, Diddy took advantage of people.

17 or 18yr old Mase doesn't understand complicated business contracts.

Justin Timberlake and Nsync and the backstreet boys went to court with Lou Perlman and won a lawsuit over the contracts he signed them to. It's not just black ppl. We've seen this happen numerous times. Diddy artists just cant afford the legal fees etc to do that.

You're a shytty person when you do what Diddy did

And again, people that voted for Obama simply because they thought he would look out for Black people are still accountable for being gullible and naive. He was the president of the United States of America. Logic tells you that he isn't looking out for one group of people or groups of people because he belongs to that group.

To say Puff "took advantage" of people suggests that he's the only exec to do it. Fact is, the music industry takes advantage of everyone who signs on the dotted line.

I just told you Lou Pearlman did it, i didnt say Diddy was the only one.

But still no excusing his actions.

Nothing wrong with voting for Obama bc he's black after black ppl have been denied that role for so long.

If you'd act the same as Diddy ur a dishonest, shady individual too.

Breh, it's a business.

Personally, if I am signing an act to my label. I am telling them straight up, "you better read that paperwork and if you have questions or concerns, ASK". If they sign the contract AFTER I told them to read and gave them the opportunity to ask questions, that is on them.

Never said it was anything wrong with voting for Obama because he's Black, but to think he was going to exclusively look out for us or better the lives of Blacks just because he is Black is gullible and naive.

What's crazy is a lot of ya'll are calling it a shady deal without seeing the contracts. You are going by:

- Diddy still owns the publishing

- he signed them to deals that bound them to the label for years

- they didn't make much regardless of having successful singles and albums

Nobody here is discussing the details of the contracts.

Walmart is a business too. But when I go in there to buy something it's a straight up clear situation. I give you $5 for your product and it's mine.

You should never as a grown ass man see a 17yr old kid across from you and tell them to "read my contract carefully and if you have any questions, ask me". Would you sign your own child to a shytty contract?

Instead of "read it carefully" just break it down clearly

Breh please. When you go to Wal-Mart, you're not signing a document for the product you buy. But if you want to use Wal Mart as an example, a lot of people are oblivious to the price matching incentives at Wal Mart, which means the product you paid $5 for, you could've gotten cheaper had you known about the incentive. The catch is "all participating Wal Marts", which means all Wal Marts may not honor that incentive.

First off, you went from 19 to 17. A 19 year old is an adult. A 17 year old is still in High School in most cases. This person shouldn't even walk into a meeting alone.

I said 17 bc didy has signed ppl all ages.

But age doesn't really matter. A regular 30 yr old isn't going to understand these contracts either. That's why entertainment lawyers are it's own separate profession.

If you cant be straight up and talk to someone in clear terms, you're being shady.

If someone sends you an offer letter on your job and it says your salary is $65,000, that's pretty cut & dry.

Recording contracts aren't cut and dry because these aren't salaried or even hourly workers. They aren't paid a set rate. Why? Because once they sign a contract, they pretty much become property of the label meaning in a lot of cases, the label is:

- giving the artist an advance. This is money that the artist is given BEFORE they record and have even proven they could sell 1 record.

- ^^^ above advance may include studio time

- sometimes they get a separate advance, which is the money in which the artist purchases clothes, homes, cars, jewelry, etc.

- your album sales are broken down in points, royalties, and percentages. This is split among whatever writers, producers, executive producer, etc. that worked on the album

Also, on Bad Boy, those songs often had multiple producers. Additionally, they had samples. When you factor in all that, you're splitting your royalties among multiple people.
