The difference between P and Puff is contracts. Some of P's artists never had contracts where Puff's artists were bound by contracts.

People are in here talking about how much of a snake Diddy is and that he took advantage. What people aren't understanding is that this is the music BUSINESS. I don't buy the whole "he took advantage of street dudes" angle because street dudes were some of the most successful in the industry in the 90s. Street dudes should be able to spot a hustle a mile away. That's survival to them.

I was looking through old Source magazines and seeing these guys from the streets owning companies and had millions in their 20's.

These dudes who are being "taken advantage of" be giving up percentages, royalties, and publishing for immediate success. On top of that the label is gambling on their success (in the 90's that million dollar videos, big album budgets, etc). Then when you can't recoup and your next album doesn't get a budget or at worst, you owe the label then its "I thought we was fam" and they hit you with "business is business". They had all of these documentaries on the industry where even platinum artists were just breaking even. They had a platinum plaque, but made no money from album sales.

I don't buy the age argument, but when we're talking about business and a dude selling you the "love, family, etc" angle and you buy into it, there's a degree of accountability that one must accept.

The sad part about it is that it IS the model. If you are trying to get a record deal (key word is deal), you are going to be hustled by somebody if you go in short sighted and gullible.

the sad part is, Puff has gobs of money and whatever small dollars Mase's pub is still worth in 2020, he should just sell it back to him.

Also, remember that group Dream he had. They had some hit songs in that era but then broke up likely because of bad business deals on Puffs end.
