:patrice: That's great that they want to have some black women representing (Monica Rambeau :salute: ), but I think they're better off putting more focus on already established black characters like T'Challa, Storm, and Luke Cage, as well as coming up with new characters and letting them shine instead of piggybacking off of the old white dudes. Especially when you know those new characters are :camby: status when they inevitably end up coming back. I'm in agreement that it makes things way too inaccessible for fans of the movies and longtime readers, and it clutters up the universe like crazy, and it feels a bit lazy just to ride the coattails of more established characters.

Then again, I only really follow the OG Marvel eras of the 60's, 70's and 80's, so Imma just let my opinion be taken with a grain of salt and let these new jacks eat :eat:
I honestly enjoy reading titles from those decades than the newer stuff.

BP is unique in which it would be extreeeeeeeemely difficult to explain why a non-black person, especially a non-wakandan, becomes the new BP and possibly the King/Queen of Wakanda. Wakanda is in Africa and it is generally xenophobic. That alone is a major buffer, narrative wise. The last time BP was replaced, it was by his sister, Shuri, who obviously was a Wakandan and a member of the royal family.

Not to mention, Marvel has already tried replacing T'Challa with a non-Wakandan biracial dude named Kasper Cole during the Priest run. Those sales were straight up :trash:. I doubt Marvel will ever try that again.

Meanwhile, the characters being replaced are located in the US and their race isn't directly associated with the mantles. Hence why Marvel can get away with it. As for Jane-Thor, it was a gender swap, not a race swap.

I'm all for black excellence but a 15 year old building an advanced iron man suit from scratch is :duck: status. I'd buy into a white black panther before I can buy into Ri-Ri's origin. That's a little much for me to digest without a proper context. I know it's comics, but the story seems a bit pander-y. I need my black characters to make some sense. I'd rather if she were a mutant like Forge or something. She needs to be aged up and she needs a good motive, otherwise she'll just come across as an affirmative action mary sue, and that's no good.

To me the premise seems silly without an external explanation.

lol @ RiRi being the name too.

Might as well have called her Beyoncé Minaj from Beyhive, Louisiana.

It's just those little touches that add to the feeling of pandering and inauthenticity.

But I'm a cynic, so where there may be good intentions, I just see the missteps.

For real, that's not even a real first name. :mjlol: :russ:

Bendis has no shame.

They are already focusing on T'Challa. His book was number 1 in the country in April, and the only non-A list character, non-Star Wars, non-Issue #1 book to be in the top 10 for two months straight now. His book is selling very well at the moment.

Luke Cage already has a teamup book with Iron Fist. It's getting some pretty good reviews. Sales are ehhh at the moment.

They tried giving Storm a solo in 2014 and the sales were :trash:.

Marvel has done what you suggested. Only T'Challa is selling very well. The rest of the non-legacy black characters? Either average numbers at best (for now), or they are approaching the cancellation zone (or the no-renewal zone, considering the 12-issue system they have now).

Meanwhile, Miles, Kamala, and Jane-Thor are selling well. Cho and FalCap have solid numbers for now.

Considering those odds, its no wonder Marvel is going the legacy route.

I'm all for it as long as the writing is good.

For example; I'm just not feeling (but support) Cyborg, Sam Wilson and Black Panther as of right now.

I haven't checked out the last two Miles Morales runs, either.

Get some good writing.

Oh, diversity means nothing when it's a diversity of exploitation...now a diversity of power :usure:let's see some of that
I definitely agree with you. I try to support the black superheroe titles on GP but if I'm not feeling the story I'm not feeling it. I try to give Cyborg a chance but not feeling him. Never cared much for the character outside of the Teen Titans but wanted to give his book a shot since he's been retconned as a founding member of the Justice League and will play a big role in DC's future films but his stuff has been wack.

Avengers compound
You just know it's going to piss off cacs. You're going to hear more of the same "they're changing all the characters black" even though 95-99% of superheros are white men.

As far as this change I'm getting sick of reboots and relaunches from both companies. We all know Stark will be back as Iron Man in a matter of months. DC and Marvel NEVER keep their big three (Batman, Superman, Wonder, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor) dead or replaced for no more than a year or two.

I do understand and appreciate Marvel and DC trying to bring in more black, hispanic, and strong women characters but you have to do it carefully and not make it so obvious.

What do you think about this Mr. Stark:mjpls:@Ironman

Good question :jbhmm:

@Ironman , what say you?

Going to need some time to process this..

I'm all for progress.. but after years and years of seeing Iron Man as an a$$hole narcissist middle aged dude, it feels a little weird to jump to a 15 year old girl.
Iron Woman doesn't sound the same :yeshrug:
This doesn't affect my life tho, nor am I paying a single cent.. so :ehh:
