Marvel Issues Statement On Whitewashing Due To Dr. Strange Film, Twitter Responds (It Backfires)

This is what you get when you move away from source material already written for a cinema and does not need much changing.

QUESTION : is rah al ghoul in batman Whitewashing, or can someone explain what his ethnicity is supposed to be?


This is why I explained it is difficult for me to write and think up comic book pages for sample pages with no writer. I just don't think in the levels of fantasy to keep ignoring the racial elephant in the room and then also having to be black and write the arduous task of plausibly writing a black revolution and then be banned like my favorite movie.

So, at least finally we get some attention to the obvious.
Imo, I wish someone would say why are we giving all our money away again to superheroes.
When, superheroes were used as war instruments and still the world never really changed and the issues these super heroes have been created and been fighting in print still exist.
When we have the know how and actual resources to eliminate any issues.
Yet these issues are never resolved.
Hopefully, superhero movies don't reach critical mass like before with comics.
or like the past death of arcades in america.

It could happen, and then we miss another opportunity.
to use what comics are marketed for which is extreme social change and awareness.

Marvel, Disney and their whole racial exchange program are going to hurt themselves.
Trying to keep making illogical changes to their source material.

Past updating the technological differences....
There should not be much changing to the source material.
Unless that source material was written so incredibly juvenile.
that it needs to be changed and I know Dr strange is not a juvenile written book in general. past the war marketing aesthetic of comics on marvel's part.

So, for marvel to try to play this.
as part of their racial exchange program was bad on their part.
This is like the under the radar racial disrespect Wesley said marvel showed him.
after he singlehandidly saved marvel the first time by himself.
For marvel to fukked it all up after they fronted on him.

All because this is a Disney subsidiary and this is a comic book company that would create this bias within the pages or film sequences in a medium written to eliminate these issues, too.

Just think about how far they have warped their white privilege in this.

Could've made this real easy on themselves by either not saying shyt or just cast an Asian and make the role and character non stereotypical. I don't see why either one of those things are hard to do

The thing is they have never stuck fully to the source material. They made Nick Fury black. They made rhoddy blacker in IM2. They made a female a significant Avenger. They have a female lead in GOTG.

Marvel has basically covered the white male, white female and African American demo.

And lets not forget the main point. Marvel said the Ancient One in this movie ISN'T the same one from the comics.

Furthermore thinking the only people that live in Asian countries are all "Asian" is a stereotype. And the movie is called Dr. Strange not Dr. ancient one

Because I'm a human being and exist and if I'm going to be about representation of minorites in all cases then it'll be all cases. And i can like the movie while still being critical of an issue like this. The two things aren't synonymous

At the end of the day, its not about the character. It's about some factions wanting to discredit Marvel and find any chink in the armor. Up until now the only 3 knocks on Marvel were

1. Too much fun/comedic relief
2 Mediocre villains.

So far non of that has worked.

The pandering to China is covered in false outrage. And I hate that people think the only way Chinese people will see an American movie is if there is a person of Asian decent featured. That's just dumb. In fact is a discredit to China.

Who's to say they didn't write it better?
And who's the say a female was better suited for the role based on the writing.

It's crazy how people are only focusing on race and not gender. If it was a white man.. I could understand. But it's a white female. We don't even know the backstory yet. We know nothing. It's way too early to start making assumptions.
