So having Tilda Swinton on some Shaw Brothers cosplay tip and doing magic kung-fu is a better option? How does that solve the 'whites appropriating ethnic culture and then becoming better at said culture' angle? It doesn't.

Do you think the Last Samurai pissed off Japanese people or nah?No it's not an attempt at that. It's an attempt to cast a person with a name in a role rather than putting an Asian in the role so they don't piss off China. It's the same basic shyt as the ghost in the shell debacle

This would be a 30 page thread filled with faux outrage if fox,Sony or wb had done this. Garaunteed.
Sony went into a co-production deal with the Chinese government for that crappy Karate Kid reboot starring Jacki Chan and Will Smith's kid...China made them change the movies name, do reshoots and cut out all sorts of stuff (like some bullying scenes and a kiss between Jaden Smith and a little Chinese girl) for the China cut but the one thing they didn't give a damn about was Chan playing the wise old Asian master teaching the Westerner (a black Westerner at that!) kung-fu.I really don't know if you want me to be honest. This is above my sociology IQ as to what would be more offensive to Chinese/Chinese Tibetan people. You seem pretty positive so I guess that's a feather in your cap.
Seeing as you are not Asian if the movie is good otherwise will you really care?I don't know breh but I do know it pissed off black people I know lol and it's just because tom cruise shouldn't be the last samurai. And I don't want to speak for another race and how they may or may not feel. I'm speaking for me. I'd rather you write a competent non stereotypical Asian character than just recast with another race

Na.... not true...... but I respeck your agenda
When they cast a white chick to play Black Panther's movie girlfriend then things will go left.Word. Imagine if they made Bishop from the X Men white or Lucius Fox from the Batman franchise white, all hell would have broken loose.
If anything, Twitter STILL is going easy on this.
Yeah, I just read an article on this. Marvel had this Chinese company with ties to the government consult on IM3 so they insured release there. Can we assume they did the same thing here?Sony went into a co-production deal with the Chinese government for that crappy Karate Kid reboot starring Jacki Chan and Will Smith's kid...China made them change the movies name, do reshoots and cut out all sorts of stuff (like some bullying scenes and a kiss between Jaden Smith and a little Chinese girl) for the China cut but the one thing they didn't give a damn about was Chan playing the wise old Asian master teaching the Westerner (a black Westerner at that!) kung-fu.
So I think Marvel could have gotten away with casting a Chinese actor/actress to play an immortal magician who teaches some white guy how to become a sorcerer.
