:ehh: i know a dude in nyc who seems legit here's his site Grand Master Chih-Young Lin

To be honest this is actually setting off a lot of alarms in my head. This guy actually seems to specialize more in what i'm studying tbh (bagua, xingyi, etc)

Things to watch out for as bad signs:

1) No description of programs/what the schools classes are like. This is usually a sign of an unnecessarily secretive guy who thinks he has the deadly, a dude who overprices what hes teaching, or a guy who holds back teaching anyone anything useful until they do 18 months of horse stance training.

2)Claiming instructor master status not only in several styles of wushu, but other martial arts. It is not possible for someone to be a quality instructor in Tongbei, Bagua, Xingyi, Changquan, Shuai Jiao period. It is not possible for someone to be an instructor quality MAist in aikido, jujitsu, karate and Judo on top of that.

My Introduction To Chinese Martial Arts - Emptyflower® Internal Martial Arts - Taiji Bagua Xingyi

My suspicions pan out in a lot of forums... :manny:

If you do want to learn wushu in NYC there are a lot of dope instructors. What kind of style do you want to learn and more importantly why/what hole will learning it fill?

Overall the summer's training is going well :wow:

I always had explosive power/speed but i was lacking in the balance and "root" i needed in my lower body. I switched my training to emphasize those and forced myself to slow everything down. we all need to once in a while to refine basics and body structure after we learn a bunch of new shyt

1) developing foot to hand full body power
2) making sure my joints rotate correctly to put torque perfectly on strikes as possible
3) relaxing enough to maintain stability and project my "intent" forward
4) incorporating my breathing better with body movement
5) flexibility

Overall i feel a body change in the process that my teacher and the books said. Im sad that i havent had my school to spar with this summer but i think its for the best to have focused on internal connections, strength, form for so long. While i feel the combat style i had from boxing/MT kinda fading away (scary prospect because thats my fighting form), I think im starting to get the wushu "method" of fighting with the training program i have now. And i think itll really help to cover and support my strengths and weaknesses in a fight.

cant wait to try my shyt out. :lolbron:

Just learn traditional boxing my dude. I wouldn't consider it that effective, when you compare it to traditional boxing.

Traditional boxing >>> >>>>Jailhouse fighting>No fighting experience

I don't have any Gracie lineage gyms around me that are top notch just Eddie bravo and Ricardo de la riva lineage. Bravo is a g. U don't think 10th planet is good? Or u just gi biased. I know it's the more traditional type but I like rolling wih a rash guard instead.
You live in the melrose/hollywood area? There are lineage schools in that area. If you want to roll no gi then yea thats the best place to go. Most schools that use a gi only do gi for open mat or on specific days.

Dope. If you can find a good instructor. Good for fighting off multiple opponents, versatile striking, a little wrestling and locks incorporated. Its a complete fighting system.

Make sure the instructor does full contact sparring.
