Art, im not willing to believe tales of your fighting ability because its a tall order.

However I AM interested in what kinds of wushu you have practiced. You seem to be a Taiji guy. Like I said im not much interested in Taiji apart from the Hulei/Zhaobao subset because it seems like it would work well with Baji, but i still read about it from time to time.

Oh and lolwutdawg i watched the Fight Quest episode for Kyokushin today... That shyt was so gully. I feel like they might as well let people hit to the face though... i figure you'll get just as much or more brain damage from kicks. Some really cool body conditioning stuff there and i liked the body blows as well. Also very impressed at how they could pick off a kick to the head as soon as they got far away.

Are elbows and knees allowed?

I've done boxing too. nikka my idol is Joe Louis. Did you read the OP? I put a sugar ray robinson gif in there :snoop:. Boxing is great. But theres more in the martial arts world for a breh to :eat: off of.

Yo for real we are endorsing boxing a lot in this thread... But there are a ton of boxers out there who try and box ali style in streetfights, loose hands, not turning over their punches or putting bodyweight in. They break their hands. They get tackled or subbed. Or K.O'd themselves cause they cant fight up close or hit through well enough.

damn breh should I reconsider boxing :wtf:

Fighting isnt for everyone. This is why there is a mutual respect among people who really put in the time to learn how to fight. Its not easy and its not for everyone. We all have minor to major injuries at some point in our education. You cant be afraid of pain if you want to learn how to fight because you're going to experience it. Learning to box involves being punched in the face, a lot. If this is something that scares you you may want to consider taking a cardio boxing class or another art altogether.

People make the mistake of thinking boxing is the same no matter where you learn it. It is not. Boxing style varies quite differently and certain styles transition better to streetfighting simply because they are more aggressive and take advantage of power punching mechanics.

Boxing: It's a Styles Thing!

thats a nice little primer.

Do you want to fight? Really? And why?

How do you react under fire?

gotta ask yourself...

The reason why they don't allow punches to the face isn't so much about brain damage, but about how their knuckles would be damaged by punching to the head. Like...say if you aim for someone's face/jaw/any knockout point, and do not land, you'll have a greater chance of fukking up your hand or wrist bones than landing strikes to the body.

I would imagine Kyokushin doesn't allow face punching because they are fighting without gloves. It's easy to knock somebody's jaw or teeth out and damage your hand like wutdawg stated. Back in the old days, they used to allow punches to the face, but too many people started getting injured. Kyokushin is an extremely tough style. I do feel they should also fight with gloves at times as well though to account for head punches.

Dude mighta got his head flown against a boxer keeping those hands so low like that.

They keep their hands low because they don't have to worry about hand strikes to the face....so they can kinda get away with it in a sense. Kyokushin fighters in K-1 definitely keep their hands up....although I'll admit that even with hands up, Karate stances still kinda leave your shyt wide open much like Muay Thai. A boxer that closes the distance against a MT or Kyokushin guy but not too close as to get clinched will most likely dominate. One of the best counters to a leg kick is an overhand right. This is why if you train such arts, it's a must that you cross train boxing.

Alot of stances unfortunately are for show and posturing. As if to say *you dont know what im going to do* Unfortunately, many fighters do not have the reaction time of Bruce Lee to defend against explosively quick fighters. I believe this is why you have to always keep those hands up in a defensive position if you are able. This fight here is an example of that. While he was moving his arms around like Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, :ahh: waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:ahh: he left an easily penetratable hole in defenses.

regarding keeping your hands up: there are defensive techniques besides pure reflex that come with low hands, head movement, shoulder blocking, etc....

That being said i think its smart to keep at least one hand up always
