I don't think $11k is expensive over a 3 year engagement. That's like $305 a month. At the same time I think whatever plans the OP's fiance had could be done for 8k.

I'm going to just say this. This is basically her day. Women dream of the white dressing, in front of family and friends at a beautiful location. Give it to her to the best of your ability. Explain to her that you dont want to spend that much and create a budget that you are both comfortable with and STICK to it but at the end of the day it will make her happy. Happy wife, happy life.

women may dream of this scenario, but it goes against all rational thinking. that 11k could be better spent as savings, or downpayment for a crib. remember the threadstarter already got kids with her. why waste it on a big party????

me and my husband went the cheap route cuz we paid for it ourselves, we spent about 1k. we dont have many friends so wasnt no use of doing it big. we had a church wedding and a lil reception. no bridesmaids or groomsmen. we decorated the reception with stuff we got at party city. we served em chicken wings and salad and of course the wedding cake. and since we were doing it at our church no liqqa which saved us money and trouble. had a nice lil honeymoon too. it can be done u just need to put ya foot down.

that part is correct , that name on the birth certificate entitles the child to the fathers benefits and etc.sad to sad it can be so simple. but im for marriage
you dont need all that, just a name on the birth certificate will do
No, the birth certificate confers no rights to the parent

It is simply record of birth

but the name on the birth certificate can get the child support, income tax benefits , social security and death benefits, with just the name on the birth certificate and take it from an old head who has many children i know this for sure
