Those American "kaffirs" are descended from those Malian Muslims. Those Kaffirs were forced to convert from Islam to Christianity. So those Americans are genetic cousins of those Malians.

Your question should be how did so many Malinke/Mandinka/Mandingo people end up in the slave trade in the Caribbean and in the North, South and Central America?

On one hand, it is cool to see Black history dramatized but on the other hand its sad that Black people are so helpless that we place such importance over entertainment which White companies profit the most of it anyways.
