He's one of the most powerful entities in DC Comics, the only room for shortcomings is in his personality. He should be a bit dorky, a bit boyish. He's been raised in relative social isolation on a farm, he's been different his entire life. He's Clark Kent first, he's only Superman when he has to be.

Cavill was none of that, he was a brutish. . .weapon.

Watch those movies again. He wasn't on edge all the time. People get the impression that he was moody the whole time. They gave him more human reactions than making him come off as perfect, imo. Just that made him more interesting and gave him depth. People often call Superman boring because they see him as a boy scout and perfect, but when they made him or human than alien people complain and claim they want the boring boy scout

The problem is that all the supporting details used to make him "more human" came about by only highlighting that being a Kent was terrible.
All those flashbacks to young Clark that got us to Clark at the beginning stealing clothes made his childhood look like hell. There was no family doing cool things together. Clark using his speed to help with family chores or laughing cause he sneezed and blew all the flood off the table.

Human life isn't just the crappy days.

Snyder has no sense of balance. That problem can be applied to everything about his Superman. Bludgeoning the point with a sledgehammer.

Dead beat Dad Supes can get all the way the fukk outta here too. He got his ass whipped by Kumar for gods sake and looks fruity as fukk and a stalker. He didnt even have a fight scene or a fight at all. He was the absolute worst Supes ever portrayed on film. He added nothing to the character.

I never said that Superman Returns was the better film, only that Brandon Routh had the qualities in his performance that I'd prefer to see in Superman. I don't think the definitive Superman movie has been made yet, but I do think Routh should still be in the title role.

In returns when he safely lands the plane in the baseball stadium he says to everyone on board that airplane is still statistically the safest way to travel. It was simultaneously reassuring, while providing a moment of levity to a world just 5 years removed from 9/11.

I just didn't see that same warmth to Cavill's Superman.

It’s funny I’m watching Krypton..... and they doing like a “making of this show” or “behind the scenes” type thing on now.

And everything they talking about right now regarding Superman is soooooooooo anti Snyder.

Like this show came on literally with one of the DC creators saying “in a world that so dark and cynical Superman is supposed to be hopefull and positive” something to that fact.

Everything they are saying and explaining about the Superman mythos is a completely different “vision”

This coming from the writers, producers, directors, etc and not critic or some niccas with a keyboard on the net:sas2:

The flashbacks and the pre-Superman stuff is there to show that despite what is happening to him to has this sense of duty to help people.

A kid being different, definitely in a southern small town that is more likely very religious, is gonna cause for him or her to be an outsider. Either it's from other kids being scared or their parents wanting their kid to not play with them.

I haven't seen the movie in some time but I read the novelization recently and it contains a few extended scenes so I may been digging into some things that weren't that clear in the movie

True, that's a limited reading of those scenes. All of them reinforce that Superboy doing his duty is something to be ashamed of and fear of consequences. Which is repeated as adult Clark never smiles or reassures anyone after helping them. He just runs off.

A kid being different, definitely in a southern small town that is more likely very religious, is gonna cause for him or her to be an outsider. Either it's from other kids being scared or their parents wanting their kid to not play with them.

What you're saying isn't in conflict with what I'm saying. All that can all be true.

It's also true that Superman comes from a loving family who supports and loves one another despite hardships. That side is what they chose to ignore in favor of the "being Superboy is tough" to set the stage for the rest of the movie. That scene of Pa talking about letting kids die could have been a powerful scene between a husband and wife discussing how to raise their son with frustration of wanting to set a good example and keep him safe. It's a jerk move putting that burden on you 12 year old son of life and death.

We never even see Ma and Pa Kent have a conversation about their son as husband and wife. It's all angst by fear in front of third parties(classmates in the closet, school bus/mom confronts Martha, bullies in front of Pete,Pa Kent's death).

That's Clark Kent breh. They searched high and low to find this dude, he actually has a soul. Henry Cavill doesn't have one.

Routh did nothing wrong man. Jerry Bruckheimer would have gotten it right.

:to:

Brandon Routh made a better Superman than Henry Cavill.

It's just that the director made a boring ass movie...

Man of Steel is still my favorite Superman movie though.

Henry should've fought for the cowlick in Man of Steel.

In Justice League he should've shaved his moustache off even though he wasn't allowed to.

You're a major Hollywood star. You're allowed to be a little bit of a rebel and break the rules to further your craft.
