Let Phil do his job. Melo is due 23 MILL from the Knicks next year! There's zero incentive for the Knicks to rip up the final year of his contract and offer him a long term deal after the season the team just had.

This is year 1 of a new Knicks era. We're not handing out a huge contract in year one when said player is still under contract.

what about the season melo had?
he literally did everything
best player we've had since patrick ewing, why wouldnt u wanna lock him up?
the team was trash minus tim hardaway and prigs. amare and jr played nice at da end but it was too late
we dont have cap space this season whether we sign melo or not
why not just resign him, and build better talent around him when everyone else comes off the books
he already said he willing to take a pay cut

Melo had a good season statistically, the team stunk. He's still under contract for an extremely generous amount of money. Phil wants one year of Melo before committing long term(Phil could be full of shyt, so understandably Melo might want to walk anyways) but he's still under contract.

We've seen what building around Melo looks like, for two separate organizations. He's 30 now. Its a new regime for the Knicks...they are not in a position to commit dollars longterm. If the Knicks surprise this season, which I think is realistic....then we go back to the drawing board contract wise when the organization is in higher spirits.

I don't know why people want Phi to restart. Do you honestly think that he would've taken the job if he didn't have a plan that would work? People also fail to realize that Phil is up there & age, and I'm quite sure he doesn't want to stick around for a 10 rebuilding project.

so
2017?:what:
so 2014, 2015, and 2016 we trash only to get "decent" and "above 500" in 2017:dwillhuh:

we are pretty much saying the same thing. losing melo will be a MAJOR setback and we are banking on a first time gm and a first time coach. will be a lot easier if we just keep him and get rid of da garbage around him.

You become decent in 2017, with a realistic shot to grow into a chip contender. Right now, with Melo you will likely never sniff a chip, unless you get Lamarcus Aldridge ; a quality point guard, extend Shump or sign a lockdown wing defender, and a center. You likely won't be able to sign all those type of players and keep Melo, even if you do, your not beating the West and maybe not Miami at that.

However if you tank for the next couple of years and move your expirings for picks , you'll have a potential star player or the assets to get one. Even if you don't get a quality pick in 2015; you take on bad contracts for picks, then make a run in 2017-2018. Once the 2017 FA hits; sign Steph Curry or Ty Lawson; Iguodola, and Ibaka, then make a trade for Demarcus Cousins

2017-2018 Knicks
Steph Curry or Ty
SG
Iggy
Ibaka
Cousins

You're telling me that team above can't compete for a chip or at the very least make noise in the East?

You'd be surprised how much accountability(throughout the organization), an actual offense where players move without the ball and a competent point guard can turn things around. Stop thinking in such absolutes. Losing Melo doesnt turn this into a 10 year rebuild.

now this is still under the assumption Phil has total control

Arguably the main issue is if Melo decides to leave up to 30 million on the table to go somewhere else for less money. as long as the knicks get a decent sign and trade for him, Melo leaving isn't the end of the world. With that said if he leaves and they get nothing back its going to take a longer time to recover

Assuming Melo leaves,Knicks will be alright if they seek no quick fixes. Trade Shump or Tyson for a 2014 pick this year, tank this year(2015 will have several quality players in the draft), then go try to sign FA's in 2016. Not even counting Durant, 2016 FA will have Al Hortford(all-star); Nicolas Batum(lockdown SF with a J), and Noah.

Once again if the Knicks don't go star chasing and be patient, they'll be alright. Trade expirings like Shump or Tyson for draft picks; if the Knicks get a top pick in 2015 they should try to sign FA's in 2016. If the Knicks get a bad pick in 2015, start taking on bad contracts for picks(hit up Detroit about taking on Josh and BJ for pick/s), and tank again in 2016-2017.

Whether they get a top pick or not in 2015, they'll be decent(above .500) by 2017-2018

this has to be a candidate for worst post of 2014

none of those players have ever expressed any interest in playing for the knicks whatsoever
you literally just pulled a random team out of your ass
and we have no idea what condition these players are gonna be in IN 5 YEARS

your overcomplicating shyt
how bout we just resign melo, and make a run at aldridge, love, marcl gasol, rondo, dragic etc NEXT year
not 5 years from now
and take it from there

ok. So how about Melo doesn't opt out and then we resign him after next season and bring in one of the guys you listed.

thats a option too
but again, dats a whole nother year of "is melo leaving or staying" talk
if he resigns this year,we get some stability and take away some distractions.
we've seen how vulerable prior knick teams are over any type of distraction
we also have a clear direction of what we are trying to do.

all im saying is phil should be considering both options
if hes saying that melo should opt in or bounce hes a idiot

No one will be worried about melo leaving or staying while Phil is in charge....this will be the last year of that type of chatter. If the Knicks dont have a good year next season he'll bounce. If they surprise they'll look to resign him. What 100% isnt happening is Carmelo getting max money from the Knicks.
