The Knicks arent giving him a new contract after the season they just had, especially when he's due a lot of money next year anyways.
this whole regime change seems to be a good spot for the Knicks to blow things up and start over, especially on the advent of draft picks returning next season

im being somewhat selfish as a Bulls fan since the Knicks are the biggest competition to sign Melo, but it seems like the right choice for both sides

i like the fish hire btw, i think he has all the markings of a good coach

:ehh: You know, clearly a talent like Melo is something you never want to part w/ as a team. His talent is pretty much franchise player worthy however, I actually would be excited about a reset & seeing what Phil could do w/ rebuilding this team.

If we were to allow a smooth transition to Chitown, you know we would ask for Taj Gibson, & both your 16th & 19th pick & whatever players we can make the contracts work.

Would you be for that?

I, and I'll speak for most Bulls fans, am at the point where if we arent moving Noah/Rose I support any trade that sends back either Melo or Love

I very much wouldnt want to move both Butler & Taj in a trade, but they just arent deal breakers. I think it would be fair to keep one of the following assets so we dont break down our team completely: Taj, Jimmy, 16th pick or 19th pick

I would imagine John Paxson and Phil would work together to make it a very smooth and reasonable process since they have a past working relationship.

:patrice: If we ask for Butler in that deal, it would only be to move Shump or Butler ina trade for another pick, possibly to OKC.

So If I'm Phil, And you're Paxson, I would agree to a deal of http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=oztehsg

:merchant: I mean..that would seriously gut your team & I wouldn't really know what you r bench identity would be. Yall would have a hell of alot of free agency work ahead of you. And with Chicago's track record...

The KNicks could do a lot of wheeling and dealing w/ that... especially after getting those picks.

The next move I'd make would be sending Butler & someone else to OKC in exchange for their pick.

Not to start a Bulls argument here, but if the Knicks can figure out a way to sign a halfway decent PG, get rid of JR and have Melo opt in... I don't see that much of a difference between the two spots. I don't see Melo wanting to play with Rose either. Not even sure what his deal is anyways at this point.

What the Knicks need to learn is if they have money/space and they don't sign they guy they want...is to not use that money on a guy theyre not as sold on. That's how you destroy your team.

It really depends on what the Bulls would have to give up in a deal. I wouldnt expect them to give away the WHOLE farm in a Melo deal, just most of it

Im not sitting here anticipating Rose to coming back to his MVP level but I certainly still think he can play at an all star level again. That, Noah & Thibs trumps whatever the Knicks can put together in the near future.
We are also expected to bring over Nikola Mirotic, the highest rated overseas prospect by many accounts, this summer or next.

I think the Bulls are definitely a better situation right now, no hate

if melo leaves da knicks gonna be fukked for atleast the next 5 years
phil better stop playing these coach like mind games and start remembering that he is a gm
resign him

exactly. people out here tryna play 2K with all these trades and sh*t.

knicks don't need to panic and try to do too much. you already brought on the gawd phil, now you add the general DFish. knicks management isn't looking so :flabbynsick: anymore. youve got proven winners and leaders now. remember d fish was president of the players association for a number of years, and even though kobe's a b*tch ass n*gga who doesn't respect anybody, even he respects d fish.

and since the knicks are probably running the triangle a traditional PG might not even be necessary. prigs has a solid year of back up play left and knicks still have shump, jr, and thjr. and if lamar can give ANYTHING the knicks should be more than straight on personnel.

the only thing life is about right now is resigning melo. im with all this play it cool sh*t phil is doin as long as he knows at the end of the day resigning melo is a must.

Phil & Fisher on their relationship & how they plan to approach Melo's free agency:

http://www.msg.com/videos/index.html?vid=2463863533

Also I am going to say it again, regardless if Melo stay's or goes I think the move this offseason will be to move Chandler. While he is still a great center (if healthy) he doesn't fit the triangle at all. With that said potentially the Suns, Mavs, and the Thunder could all be suitors for him and the packages they give for him can lead to some interesting moves further in the season.

Assuming Melo leaves,Knicks will be alright if they seek no quick fixes. Trade Shump or Tyson for a 2014 pick this year, tank this year(2015 will have several quality players in the draft), then go try to sign FA's in 2016. Not even counting Durant, 2016 FA will have Al Hortford(all-star); Nicolas Batum(lockdown SF with a J), and Noah.

Once again if the Knicks don't go star chasing and be patient, they'll be alright. Trade expirings like Shump or Tyson for draft picks; if the Knicks get a top pick in 2015 they should try to sign FA's in 2016. If the Knicks get a bad pick in 2015, start taking on bad contracts for picks(hit up Detroit about taking on Josh and BJ for pick/s), and tank again in 2016-2017.

Whether they get a top pick or not in 2015, they'll be decent(above .500) by 2017-2018

so
2017?:what:
so 2014, 2015, and 2016 we trash only to get "decent" and "above 500" in 2017:dwillhuh:

we are pretty much saying the same thing. losing melo will be a MAJOR setback and we are banking on a first time gm and a first time coach. will be a lot easier if we just keep him and get rid of da garbage around him.
