Those aren't reasons, those are opinions. And poorly defended opinions, at that.

This team is worse than it was last year. There is less talent on the roster. I hope they play well, I'd always rather root for a good team than a bad team. But we're not competing for a championship... not even close. Some of you kids need to wake up to that. This season is all about NEXT year, freeing up salary cap, giving us flexibility to get more talent. And the best, and easiest way to get cheap talent is through the draft.

So let's see how the season plays out, we're still months away and the East has opened up. But that doesn't make the Knicks a better team...

I think sometimes you guys get lost in "Yo we could get a 5th-6th seed :gladbron:" That's not success... that's being the hawks. Extended mediocrity is not a goal, not for me at least.

Can you kindly explain to me how this team has less talent than last years team?

NO TANK ZONE:birdman::birdman::birdman:

:ufdup:Y'all know better.

Stop that tank talk because you know phil don't play that shyt

We all know Phil won't intentionally tank, but a top 3 pick would make this year a very successful one.
Eh fukk it make the offs, hopefully you guys take the final slot and the Heat sneak into the lotto.

Breh...

If you are honestly saying the Lebron James saga is something that can be attributed to "the norm" or something that can be expected...then I'm sorry, you're way off base.

What is going on w/ Lebron James is such an anomaly breh. Can you give other examples?

Shaq going to the Lakers
TMac and Grant Hill going to Orlando

Even if you don't sign FA, top picks allow you to net players via trade(Knicks getting Melo; Cavs getting Love, Clippers getting Paul, etc)

Now the plot thickens...

So we can honestly say, the best examples of draft picks is using them in trades to net established players.

Okay.

This is still not a good pitch to sell tanking. Sorry.

It's not an anomaly, this is what happens. Teams stockpile assets, and put themselves in position to trade for talent and sign talent. This is how the NBA works now. I don't know why you guys are so confused.

We watched the Celtics do the same exact thing, flip assets for great players to pair with their star in his prime. The Thunder have used their high draft picks to draft star players. The clippers used their lottery picks to draft a star, and traded for a star... and now they're relevant. Golden State used lottery picks to get Seth and Klay.

I don't really understand what your malfunction is. You know what teams HAVEN'T done? Used picks in the high-teens and 20's to pray for stars while they struggle for 6th seeds, and then magically launch themselves into contention. That's what the Hawks have done. That's what you seem to want the Knicks to do. With zero history to back it up.

You aren't in reality. You're saying the knicks are better off fighting for a 5 seed, as if players this summer will say to themselves... "Well, I'm not so sure about their roster... but man, they were able to get the 5th seed!" Players have agents and advisers, and teams to help them breakdown where they should land. Fighting hard for a 6th seed isn't what matters. Talent on the roster is what matters, especially for the kinds of free agents we're talking about. Quality of life, can I win there... can I live there.

Kevin Love isn't forcing a trade to cleveland because they really GUTTED IT OUT last season. He's going to that great american shythole of a city, because they now have star talent.

Breh... I'm a fan, I don't want to see an intentional tank. Bottom Line. Maybe if I were in management, I might be tempted to do that.

But I'm a fukking fan. I want to enjoy watching players play their best, regardless if they are going to win it all. (We've touched that many posts ago)

I want Management to make moves as well as they can without intentionally tanking, anything else is fair game.

Bottom line breh.

We disagree, good debate, but I think this topic is done...

The funny thing to me is Phil is clearly not tanking and thinks we can compete this this year , if your pushing tanking then you have to disagree with Phil who took a drastically different approach . Nba isn't the nfl, philly tanked harder than a motherfukker and didn't get Parker or wiggins and same could happen to us . There are other ways to be a competitive team in the future without tanking . We saw a horrible Knicks teams for years that drafted gallo , Channing and sweetney with high picks :scusthov:

I agree with basically all of this since when did losing in the first or second round become an acceptable goal? This roster as currently constructed is not close to being a real contender for an NBA title and really that is all I care about. If Knicks fans have to watch a season or two of bad basketball so be it.

So since Scott Layden and Isaiah Thomas made terrible decisions the current Knicks front office should never attempt to secure a high draft pick. :heh::mindblown::rudy:

1) It's Jason Smith.

Beyond that... most of those plaers... murry/beno/shannon/metta/smith/acy/early - these guys are fringe players that won't even account for a single win share.

Last year we had one of the best defensive centers in the game, and one fo the best pick and roll finishers in the game. This year we have sam dalembert. That is a massive drop off. I don't think the improvement from felton to calderon makes up for that, especially when calderon is maybe the only point guard in the league that makes us WORSE defensively than we were with felton. To me, that's less talent. I'm happy we moved chandler, and I'm happy we got calderon. I like Acy as an effort guy, I like Larkin but he hasn't shown a thing in the L yet. But we're talking about losing a perennial DPOY candidate, that's a loss, even if it's a loss that I support.

Again, I'm aware that this team isnt' going to tank. I know they're not gonna do 20 wins, phil won't stand for it, and the team is too good to do 20 wins or mail it in.

I just don't get where this bizarre anti-draft sentiment came from. Some of you are so battered, that you'd rather root for an average team then pull for them to be great. It's bizarre.

@I.V. Thanks breh, Jason Smith, 'preciate it. :jawalrus:

I don't think anyone is anti-draft. :dwillhuh: As a matter of fact, we were happy Phil made moves to get us into the draft, w/ the Tyson trade.

Nobody wants this team to be average. As a matter of fact, you're the one arguing for us to be less effective. We have cap space & we do have our 1st rounder, let the chips fall...naturally is all.
