Us senators only make 174k a year

That's chump change

The coli dot com

Why do people keep throwing around random cities like NYC, SF and DC? This dude lives in f#ckin Wisconsin :why:

And even if you live in those cities, $120K is enough to eat, sleep and have some fun. Maybe not as lavishly as if the same amount is being made in other cities, but you're not starving. And if you are, you're simply horrible with money.

And what trips me out, is that I bet some of the people making those "that's not a lot of money in XYZ city" points probably don't even make $120K and don't even live in the cities they're talking about.

But this is Le Coli :skip:

Peace

I got a friend who got divorced at 39 with 5 kids making 130k a year north of Boston. The Alimony/child support was so high, he literally took a job for less money (still $70-90k a year) and moved into a rental apartment with only 2 bedrooms for his kids to share when they stayed with him. Within 2 years, 2 of the kids were old enough to be off at College and one was about to be graduating high school, so his child support dropped.....to $2k a month, and she can take him back to court any time he makes more money to ask for more support.

Dude literally makes less money on purpose right now, and never has any any doh, drives a old paid off sedan and watches his pennies for eating out/drinking.

Getting divorced is one of the best ways to ruin your financial earning power.
So glad I never got married and had kids:wow:

I mean damn. These archaic laws got some men on the verge of being homeless.

I live in DC, work for the government and see this shyt every day. You got cats that make that kind of money but have horrible financial discipline. Of course folks are gonna be broke when you're paying $3500 for rent, having a $700 car note and dealing with a high college debt load.

What trips me out about broke folks in my agency is that we can telework from anywhere in the US but folks dont move to cheaper spots to save money. I'm gonna be moving south in a few years to get out of DC.

It's still so sobering to read and hear these stories although they're a lot more common than many know.

its easy to go through....FAST....

ive made that before and i live in louisiana....

there are expensive areas no matter where you live...im sure even in wisconsin there are places with houses worth $500k+...and expensive private schools

should he be able to manage with 120k? sure theoretically...but him struggling is not uncommon....

people that stunt like they have money ironically are some of the brokest :francis:
That's what we're saying. Not that its a lot of money but if you're only making 120k, don't live like you make 400k!

I'm all for having a nice quality of life, but what's it worth if your not building wealth i.e. buying up property, investing etc, if you're just going to spend it on a trendy lifestyle.

This! There are tons of whites who live above their means and/or have to deal with unplanned circumstances that's beyond our control.

Also, YES the system is designed for us to fail. Understanding that and resisting peer pressure to keep up the front and constantly go out to events that involve spending money and being super disciplined with our spending can offset that a bit unless we have expensive unplanned circumstances like health/dental bills, car motor blowing up/expensive car maintenance, etc.

Its like we have to live in old cheap matchbox apartments, not have cable, internet, only flip phones, not go out to eat, shop at cheap grocery stores and buy cheap food like ramen noodles, frozen chicken, frozen and canned veggies, etc., not travel and take vacays, and definitely not have any expensive habits like drinking, smoking, gambling, substances, shopping, etc. To save maximum money...u have to live like a hermit unless u had a wife who worked and make good money as well.

It's something about that mark when many people touch it, they just go ape shyt. I guess because for many who aren't used to that, making really close to 6 figures and especially reaching that 6 figure threshold outright has always been touted as "Eureka!" ... even if it's lower 6 figures.
