I live in the Orlando area in Altamonte so I’m about 15-20 minutes from Sanford. Your folks should be “fine”. Central Florida area is expected to resume as normal come Friday. My thing is, if there’s a significant power outage, that’s gonna slow things down considerably. So they definitely need to prepare for that if they haven’t already. The worst we’re expecting is high winds and flooding but not at the same level as the coastal cities.
They are expecting flooding in Central Florida, which is why they have lowered the rivers to allow for the rainfall but they are going to get a lot of rain and wind. So I advised my mother and sisters to put sandbags outside of their doors to keep potential water out. I also advised them to get flashlights and have plenty of bottled water.

lol it’s funny you say that because my mama was texting me about sand bags last night. Lucky for her, I found a package of empty sand bags at my job and we have a big ass pile of soft dirt sitting outside in a field so I’m loading up for her.

Meanwhile everybody on my Ring app is panicking looking for sand bags

Tell them that they are giving away free sand all around Orlando.

A lake near Tampa FL
Hey guys, my sister-in-law and my niece and nephew live in Sanford. They refuse to leave. I'm so worried, but she got really snippy with me when I asked her about evacauting. Does anyone live near there or in Florida know if it's supposed to hit Orlando or the Sanford area? Maybe I'm worried for nothing but I just hate how nonchalant she's being about this.
Sanford is 100+ miles from the west coast of Florida, your fam should be good breh.

Honestly… you tried :yeshrug:

Let them make their own choices and live with their own decisions.

From what I hear, as far as storm surge then the inlands will be ok. But they will most likely lose power regardless, there will be flooding by any banks and rivers, roads surrounding will probably be down, etc.

They're not completely assed out if they prepare and thats if the storm has decreased by landfall. It will die down over land but the storm is huge and they will get something even if its lingering effects.

Not to worry, they won’t be alone. A lot of people stay in Florida and ride out hurricanes and they all say they won’t do shyt until the aftermath of them sitting in hot ass gas station lines, power lines out, looting, walking through waist high deep water, trapped in high areas like bridges, hoarding toilet paper, etc. if that was to happen to your snippy side of family I would straight up tell them to call me last because I was the first to tell you to bounce

I even heard they were lowering the lakes and canals here and that might just be outer bands impact so i can't imagine closer to the eye. Better to be safe than sorry tho. Gonna be crazy rain for sure.

Also, another reasons why some Floridans choose to ride out certain hurricanes is to protect their home as much as possible.

I know when Andrew hit Florida, South Florida was like the Wild Wild West at some point, with certain people arming up and “protecting” their neighborhoods from looters… similar to Katrina in New Orleans.

That only happens if your shyt isnt already destroyed completely by then.
