You're right, gulf would be right into the storm.
He should've sailed through the Atlantic and stopped near Georgia. I can't see him surviving on a boat with large waves. How big do waves typically get? He's as a good as dead.
He said the water in Helene got up to a post that was at least 6 feet above where his boat is now. The prediction is that its supposed to be higher than that
It would have to be how the waves are crashing. The way he angled the boat is smart, you point it towards the waves I think to prevent capsizing (I was Navy but I wasn't driving boats so not my biggest point of expertise) instead of on its side or sides to the waves.. he specifically said that in the clip.
Will he survive… I say it’s probably 50/50 chance and maybe he likes those odds compared to being on the street and losing everything he owns by ditching it.
Being out in the water may make it harder for a lil boat like that to stay in position compared to tied to a pier. Like I said on ships we just head towards that bytch and away from land to avoid other boats, debri, being forced inland if parked and anchors/moors fail, etc
