Ruler's criticisms i.e. "puzzle rap" will ring true for many listeners who are not already fans of Lupe or this "prog rap" type of music. Stans can be :umad: about it but this is not an album made for everyone. It's not easily accessible and that will turn a lot of folks off. Plenty of people have no interest in solving a rap rubik's cube. And this is coming from someone who likes this album and appreciates what he's doing lyrically here.

He said this album is for his fans last night in the interview, so you're right.

It wasn't meant to be easily accessible. Lupe even went on to say, that he's done dumbing down his music for people.

Which is cool, cuz from what I understand Lasers was the opposite i.e. an attempt to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

My wife barely pays attention to the words in music and I showed her the Adoration hook / album covers Genius annotation and she was really impressed. But there's no way she would listen to the whole album and decipher everything Lupe is saying here. Most listeners won't, but that subsection of fans that will is who this album is made for, and it'll likely end up being a cult classic if it stands the test of time.

When you get a chance, you should check out that interview he had last night. Shed a lot of insight on everything from Lasers to this album. It was a dope interview from start to finish.

Is the interview you talking about the one posted like a page or two back (I got posts set to 50 per page so...)? It was marked as private when I tried to play it.

Y'all would be laughing so hard if y'all saw how heavy I'm looking out the window waiting for the mailman to come.

Still have no idea what it sounds like or if he broughit it. The anticipation is so very real right now. If this album sucks I think I might retire from the coli and go live in a cave.

as of late i cant argue that. nas's body of work is still arguably the strongest.
only person I have close to nas honestly is Ghost but Lupe is rising up there and if he puts out a few more projects on this level hes top 3 easy.

F&L, The Cool, and Tetsuo are all at least 4.5 mic albums period. many don't have one and he has three, even despite the wackness that was lasers.
I think if The Cool came out in 1994, it would've likely been named the most revolutionary type rap album ever. I'm not saying Illmatic is overrated by hip hop stans, but I feel it got the Michael Jordan treatment, where the rap game just protected the album and made it godlike and that shyt still happens to THIS DAY. It's a top 3 rap album no doubt, but nikkas just completely disregard anything else in an argument.

Body of work (heh) Nas is still superior, but I really feel Lupe's top 3 beats Nas' top 3.
The Cool and Illmatic are a push for me
Tetsuo & Youth > IWW (I'd go for IWW up until it hits Nas is Coming w Dre, and then it's scattered for the remainder tracks, while TC is consistently a classic throughout)
I don't really know what I'd put as Nas' third best album, I personally think LIG, but some people disagree

I'd say Life is Good is better than F&L but I've never given F&L a real listen
