Lupe is upset bc 1) he and kendrick are eerily similar. Both from historically respected hoods but they were the nerds who grew out of it. And 2) bar for bar, intellectually, yes, Lupe is more talented than Kendrick

The bitterness comes bc kendrick did a better job at synthesizing those smarts and making it enjoyable, palatable for an audicne. And that’s not to be confused with ‘dumbing it down’. Kendrick makes more relateable music. Lupe does not.

So when Lupe sees kendrick get adulation, he feels a need to swipe. Bc in his mind ‘well I’m more talented, this doesn’t make sense’

Lupe is making it way too technical. Lupe is like an English professor grading on techical literary devices used in an essay. Kendrick is like Mark Twain. One of the greatest writers in American history who what shyt at spelling and grammar. As a fan, I don’t give a fukk if Kendrick isn’t using metaphors and similes if he’s saying someone I want to hear that’s profound with cool l, interesting flows.

On the flip side, I can really enjoy a literary master who can contrive words like magic like Lupe. But the sneak dissing, fussing over technicalities ain’t cool imo. Lupe needs to stop speaking on Kenny. While I do think Lupe could bar any rapper on this earth away, Kendrick got energy and paint an amazing narrative humble most rappers as well. Lupe needs to respect the him

I think people overstate how similar the 2 are. I’d consider myself a mega fan of both, and I’ve realized they aren’t really the same. It’s like a physics teacher vs a pastor and asking each of them explain how the world works. They are both very deep but they got 2 very different methodologies imo. Their subject matter might overlap like Drogas Wave vs TPAB in parts, but how they express it, is very different. Lowkey, I think that’s part of Lupe’s frustrations with Kendrick but he’s gotta relax

Lupe never recovered from Kendrick taking his spot as the commerciallly successful lyrical artist in hip hop.

You can feel that man's bitterness. He can drop all the 10 minute long lyrical miracle puzzles he wants but the reality is that Kendrick delivered on Lupe's promise as a serious artist who could also move units.

Lupe been in the message board rap genius ghetto ever since Kendrick blew up.

I don't think they're similar at all, I think kendrick real strength in his music is when he is going for very simple concepts, simple rhyme patterns pretty much in your face relatable music. I actually think out of his last 3 albums damn is probably the most listenable album because it's what kendrick does best, make relatable music. He's not a entredre rapper which is what lupe is, kendrick not even on Jay level lyrically he's pretty basic from a lyrics standpoint. I think for you what makes them similar is conceptual part of hiphop. Section 80 probably was where kendrick last met the criteria of a lyricist from most rappers perspective. He's a rappers rapper, not a rappers lyricist. You not breaking down a kendrick bar like a mfdoom bar or even a lupe bar etc
