I think people overstate how similar the 2 are. I’d consider myself a mega fan of both, and I’ve realized they aren’t really the same. It’s like a physics teacher vs a pastor and asking each of them explain how the world works. They are both very deep but they got 2 very different methodologies imo. Their subject matter might overlap like Drogas Wave vs TPAB in parts, but how they express it, is very different. Lowkey, I think that’s part of Lupe’s frustrations with Kendrick but he’s gotta relax

I didn’t mean musically I meant their background. Lupe is from Chicago but not street. Kendrick is from Compton but not street. They are both very unique outliers in that respect rap wise

is he not a lyricist? Or is he not on the level of others you prefer. Let’s be real. Double meanings and punchlines are not 100% of lyricism. Is Nas not a lyricist?
I suppose depends on your standards, personally I don't consider kendrick a lyricist. I don't look for his music to provide me with 3-4 entredres per bar, and he doesn't provide that. He's a dope song maker

Kendrick is like Mark Twain. One of the greatest writers in American history who what shyt at spelling and grammar.
This is partially what his issue is. Kendrick is NOT that :pachaha:

Mane don’t let that nikka Lupe bamboozle you. He cleaned up his image a lot 2005 onwards

I’m not really the biggest Kendrick fan but I don’t get it. He puts words together very well and is a great story teller. Can delve deep into personal topics like fatherhood and also give you battle bars like “like that”. Reminds me a lot of Nas, more than Cole.

You would think Lupe would LOVE Kendrick. So strange.
He does he been hyping up K Dot for years he just said dude is not no top tier lyricist lmao

Nas is completely different from K Dot & Lupe

For one, k Dot & Lupe are at a big disadvantage when even discussing rap skills compared to Nas cuz Nas has one of the greatest rap voices of all time and theirs can be viewed as a weak point

Doesn't remind me of nas either nas have entire songs built off of metaphors and entendres, I don't think kendrick the kind of rappers to rap something like verbal intercourse fot example, much closer to cole. Kendrick great at writing songs/theme, I think that's his strong point

Lupe was suppose to be Kendrick and he never reach that level. He has his self to blame for making so much filler, bland, music

I’m sure Lupe thinks Cole is 100x better than Kendrick…and Drake but he won’t say that, lol. I’d love to hear Lupe and Cole on some shhit together

If Drake was writing his own rhymes I’d think he’s a better rapper than a Kendrick too…he has writers/help tho so that’s just a corny, half truth, lowkey nut-hugging statement by Lupe…he knows Drake’s pen is super questionable, pause

It’s two different schools of thought conflicting. That’s what drives Lupe crazy. By his metrics, Kendrick is not a lyricist. It’s semantics imo but I get it to an extent. To someone who’s worked as hard as Lupe has to get to the pinnacle of wordsmithing, it’s probably very annoying. Like if Giannis fans were saying he’s a better scorer than KD. Like yeah he’s scoring 30 a game like KD but it’s different. But to say Kendrick isn’t dangerous is pure hate. Giannis will put 50-20-10 on your head. KDot a big stepper. Lupe gotta relax

This right here, I agree with, I still prefer Kendrick music over their music tho.

Basically bars and no beats is what whoever this is prefers

I prefer people who split the difference, they can deliver enough bars without sacrificing the main point - making something people want to listen to
