I’d definitely remove more than a couple of those names from Top Tier and put them on Tier 2 but everybody mentioned is a great rapper so 🫡. No Common? I think Common is better than Thought. 🤷🏽‍♂️, whatever tho, Thought is amazing too. I’d have Ransom on Tier 3, 🤷🏽‍♂️, no offense. Probably Sean too.

I gotta get into Elzi, pause. I’ve heard a few joints that people posted in here but not enough, he’s the only one I haven’t really devoted some time to listening to/studying.

Yall make it sound like Kendrick just puts words on a piece of paper. He's not a lazy writer
Kendrick is soulful and thought provoking. Extremely vulnerable and introspective. But technically speaking, his rhyme schemes are simple and he doesn’t rely heavily on literally devices comparatively to some rappers. To me, I still consider him to be a lyricist cause he’s thinking deeply about his message and story. To Lupe, he seems to separate that and the technicalities of lyricism. You can be rapping about stupid stuff but if you are pulling out advanced similes/ metaphors/ punchlines/ and rhyme schemes, he’d say that’s lyricism. Personally, I disagree but I can see where he’s coming from.

Kendrick is very intentional with his writing process but a lot of us older fans feel like he isn’t as sharp as he was in 2010-2015, especially around 2011-2013. Doesn’t seem as hungry

Seems like as the hits got bigger some people argue he focuses more on the artistic side to appeal to the masses. This is a positive when it comes to his ability to craft songs compared to a guy like Lupe.

But on the contrary, i believe (prolly so does Lupe) that every album after Section 80 and gkmc aren’t as good despite the universal acclaim

Section 80 gets lost in the shuffle of Kendrick’s discography because it was right before the hype kicked into full gear

Huge Lupe fan, trust Lupe is definitely jealous of Kendricks success. Kendrick is easier to listen to, while still making thoughtful tracks. Dude definitely has skills

Of course lyrically, Kendrick ain't messing with Lupe, but Kendrick is still good lyrically while making more catchy music.

Basically in the same lane with concept albums. I don't think any of Kenny's albums are messing with The Cool, but I can easily see why everyone gravitates to Kendricks albums. I stopped the Kendrick Vs Lupe thing after I heard To Pimp a Butterfly. Lupe should get over it.
very true. But this shyt probably had Lupe on 10000

Lupe is upset bc 1) he and kendrick are eerily similar. Both from historically respected hoods but they were the nerds who grew out of it. And 2) bar for bar, intellectually, yes, Lupe is more talented than Kendrick

The bitterness comes bc kendrick did a better job at synthesizing those smarts and making it enjoyable, palatable for an audicne. And that’s not to be confused with ‘dumbing it down’. Kendrick makes more relateable music. Lupe does not.

So when Lupe sees kendrick get adulation, he feels a need to swipe. Bc in his mind ‘well I’m more talented, this doesn’t make sense’
It’s dumb though because in the hip hop world it’s pretty consensus between fans and talking heads that Lupe is more skilled than Kendrick. Idk what he’s trying to prove

People used to tweet to him asking his thoughts on Kendrick and he was always a fan until Control dropped. Sometime after there he started this idea that Kendrick was overrated, even though he even gave him props on stage before

After control he liked it but dropped a response

He's also notably a fan of TPAB Ofc

Since like 2016 he keeps tweeting every once in a while talking about Kendrick, responding to people saying Kendrick would best him in a rap beef etc. He's really got a problem with the idea Kendrick is a better rapper than him (which is fine) but he's overcorrected to now where he's basically a fan of Drake simply because he's got this secret beef with Kendrick since control.

Even at one point saying fukking Logic is better than Kendrick

but at the same time he's clearly still a fan

Lupe just jealous because he knows he'd obviously best Kendrick in a 1v1 beef but Kendrick will never take that bait because there's no real reason to, and because of that everyone looks at Kendrick as the top lyricist.

So basically random twitter fans gaslit Lupe into hating kendrick?

This is exactly what happened, and I can't blame Lupe for feeling that way. Lupe feels that he is one of the best and better than Kendrick and has every right to feel that way. It's the same way Kendrick probably feels when people put Drake against him. Shyt is competition at the end of the day. :manny:

But Lupe hate be out of line sometimes, especially when he said Logic was better than Kendrick.
