Shedding light on an issue that black men go through at an ridiculous rate. Arguably a top 3-5 documentary of all time when you consider its originality, cultural impact, structure, vision? and the sheer amount of truth loaded into in such a short frame of time. She could have used this as a chance to push an agenda about BM violence towards BW or any of that other shyt, but chose not to. Chose to put aside any and all of her agendas to do right by black men. And she gets repaid by disgusting threads like that because some (not all) black men can’t put their Internal struggle aside to support the art of one of the great visionaries of our time. Black women are underrepresented in film, we should be celebrating the fact that a sista made a movie with a black young lead, when’s the last time you saw that?

Second, the point of the film was to empower women, especially young women and its celebrated for being a mostly female cast and crew. All the leading roles were women, all the men in the movie had small roles.

Black people are 12-14% of the population. People like to watch movies starring people who look like them. You can go to most any black persons house who still has a DVD collection and see a large number of black films in relation to the number of actual films released. Unless it's sci fi or a big budget blockbuster most people aren't trying to see movies starring other races. White people didn't turn out en masse to see "Best Man Holiday" just like black people didn't show up to see "Manchester by the sea"

With this knowledge, how else am I supposed to take people who seriously argue that black people need more representation in large movies, while completely ignoring the independent route. These people are basically trying to tell Hollywood studios "I don't care if you make money, I just want to be seen as desirable to the wider (White) audience."

Meanwhile black producers can only garner support for movies aimed at the church or romantic comedies, which are cheaply made min comparison to other movies and won't kill a studio if it flops.

This has created an atmosphere where the only black people that can get a theatrical release off the ground are Tyler Perry and Will Packed, because they play it safe. Imagine if an Indy sci fi flick grossed 100 mil like girls trip. That director would have no problem financing his next project.

I'm rambling so I'll stop but bottom line is, you can't just cut to the front of the line because it's "fair". If you want representation in hollywood, don't just beg white people to put us in their movies. Go support those "cheap" independent films. Show out for them like y'all showed out for black panther. Anything else is begging for white people to accept you
