Looks like Xbots have already thrown in the towel. Now they’re dreaming of a new console in 2026

You don't really get a second chance to make a first impression. They put out a product and the impression on it is meh. They need to regroup and put out a different product putting their all into making it a better one upon first impression. They can drag around the corpse of the Xbox Series consoles till 2029 and it wouldn't do anything. Their position there is set. Nothing changes that and it's not really worth trying.

If they put out a new console they can get attention and generate a buzz. Put all those studios to work on making it a better product. Putting out a console in 2026 is not unreasonable.

As you can see, it would be very problematic to cut this production timeline in half

they've done this multiple times at this point.

the brand peaked with the 360's early years. It's not coming back.

Sony and Nintendo will have to fall completely on their face and even then it won't matter.

Exactly.

Its like saying all they had to do to save the Zune was launch a new one before the IPod

They own 2 major publishers and on top of that the studios they already had before then. Their first party setup has never been like this with those other consoles. They have enough resources to furnish a steady stream of content on their own console regardless of third parties.

The execution has been lacking but it isn't impossible they revive their brand. It won't be easy but it's more than doable given what they have to work with. I question if the current leadership at Xbox can do it. They are the reason things are now moving in the wrong direction and Nadella doesn't seem to have the heart to clean house. I mean Mattrick did damage but we're past the point that they should be showing signs of reversing it.

I guess at the worst they at least got Xbox to single digit percentage profitability which can't be said for the Xbox 360 days. They might not be competitive but they're profitable.

Why can’t they turn the current consoles around like sony did with the ps3 when they started releasing good software?

I still fail to see how the series x/s is the problem here and not “xbox”

Who said the Xbox Series consoles were the problem? Saying that in year 4 these things are unlikely to be salvaged because they're too deep into their life cycle to be saved isn't saying they're the problem.

A new console isn't going to fix their issues. It will however be a new product that can stand on it's own and if they do the work to fix their actual issues people will judge it for what it is vs what the products they have out that are in decline are.

I would also say giving up 45% in hardware sales between the PS2 and PS3 isn't turning anything around. That's worse than what Microsoft gave up between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One which was like 30%. The real turnaround for Sony was the PS4 compared to the PS3. If you want to go console wars at least we weren't last I guess you can consider that a turn around but giving up so much of your customer base there's no positive spin to that.

The PS3 is Nastradamus. It had a few good tracks for for a Nas album it's straight garbage.

PS3 generation could have been so much worse and it could have lead to an even worse generation, sort of like the xbox one. Turning around was fixing the pricing, fixing the messaging, and the software problem. The hardware itself was unsalvageable.

Thats not really the case with Microsoft these past two generations. I don’t think there’s anything new hardware can do to fix their biggest problem, which is the brand reputation, especially overseas. The only thing they can do i drop 10/10 software back to back but even then, there’s no focus in what they’re especially good in. The selling point this entire generation has been gamepass and gamepass isn’t a compelling enough product on its own.

I’ve been saying from the start the ‘Netflix of gaming’ thing won’t work because of the obvious accessibility ceiling on video games and the commitment level required to enjoy it.

Microsoft have to find another lane. I think becoming a more PC centric brand is the only frontier left.

I can honestly say at this point we know more about Xbox future planned slate of games than we know about Sony's. Xbox has games announced like State of Decay 3, Everwild, Perfect Dark, The Outer Worlds 2, Fable, Blade, South of Midnight, and Clockwork Revolution in the pipeline. They've got stuff like Avowed and Hellblade II dated for 2024. That's not even getting to the obvious unannounced stuff like whatever Double Fine is working on, the Indiana Jones game from MachineGames. They haven't really been playing it too close to the chest it's just that software development takes time.

yeah but that's also a problem we need a solid time table on game releases on xbox and secondly HOPEFULLY these games dont flop like starfield for being boring....:dead:

It's funny as yall sit here and downplay Microsoft's efforts in gaming the Sony hacks have shown there's a level of unrest in the company about what Microsoft has been doing. Let their gamers here tell it Sony shouldn't be feeling that way because Xbox is pretty much brand irrelevant and can never come back. Meanwhile the company itself is taking them serious and looking into ways to combat them. I think Sony's feelings on the matter are closer to the truth then the posters here are.

Sounds like they need to throw the Xbox Series S away. And focus on X. I doubt they've wrung everything out of that console yet.

Sonys worries all relate to the idea that microsoft can throw an endless pile of money, perpetually at a problem that didn’t exist until just recently. Time will tell that what Microsoft is doing isn’t really sustainable and can never be replicated by Sony or Nintendo and they know it.

Microsoft also won’t be able to continually throw money into a bottomless pit. If what they were doing were the simple solution it would have been 1:1 replicated by now.

What Phil Spencer said about Amazon and Google entering gaming and devaluing the market is the exact thing they are currently doing. If you don’t think a microsoft hack would expose those same concerns in the other direction you’re naive. You think the execs at microsoft are comfortable with continually losing marketshare for the 2nd generation in a row? You think this is going According to their big plans at the beginning of the generation when they were patting themselves on the back for having the better hardware and software in emails?

Its easy to think its sony on their back foot because we have their information but im sure those emails at microsoft these past two months of marking down their hardware 50% aren’t looking too rosey either. They said they lose 100-200 dollars per console, thats when they were priced at 349.99 and 499.99, they have been half priced for over a month now and there’s no chance of them going back up which means they are almost fully subsidizing every purchase of their console from this point on.

It will certainly be interesting to see which side cracks first :sas2:

If half their install base weren’t series s’ they probably would have ripped the band aid off already. Unfortunately there’s no way they can cut off so many of their Customers at this point
