We're talking about trying to generate a buzz so they can move consoles again. The current product has a stigma attached to it that won't allow them to do that. People like new shyt.
Why are you so strongly against this? You don't really seem to be on their side and favor their competitor if this is a bad move it will further their demise.
I'm not saying this won't come with problems but at this point it's their best move.

It’s two generations in a row now. The problem isn’t the series x/s, it’s the xbox brand.
It’s not about being for or against, i don’t care if they release another console in two years. It just doesn’t make any real strategic difference like you think it does. Again, it worked for nintendo because they went from making home consoles to essentially going all in on handhelds.
If microsoft have some grand pivot in design and functionality for their next hardware line it would make sense but who knows what that could possibly be outside of a cloud based hardware line or something. Just making another box, isn’t really going to make waves anymore

I’m only arguing that releasing a console in 2026 would be stupid, regardless of whether they do it or not.
But if/when they drop it in 2025 or 2028 you are gonna have to then argue why those years are not correct.
Might as well just wait
Why would it be stupid? It's just going back to the way things always were. A console came out and within 5-6 years it was replaced and a couple years after the replacement, the previous model was phased out. Nintendo still does it like that.
Hell the Xbox One X came out at $499 and within 3 years it was replaced by the Series X which also cost $499.
These expensive mid-gen refresh consoles that cost excessive prices and can't really separate themselves from the base console are what's stupid. 4K isn't new so we don't even have a gimmick to be sold them on anymore.

And the switch has been on the market for 7 years now it will be damn near 8 if switch 2 releases at the end of this year or early next year

Don't get me wrong, I play my PS5 more than my Series X but these dudes are ridiculous.they just hoping for enough to maintain 30 fps in Forspoken
I'm about to make a thread about why most of them can't even see the benefits of what they're bragging about.
their issue isn't power.
You don't really get a second chance to make a first impression. They put out a product and the impression on it is meh. They need to regroup and put out a different product putting their all into making it a better one upon first impression. They can drag around the corpse of the Xbox Series consoles till 2029 and it wouldn't do anything. Their position there is set. Nothing changes that and it's not really worth trying.
If they put out a new console they can get attention and generate a buzz. Put all those studios to work on making it a better product. Putting out a console in 2026 is not unreasonable.
