I thought this sh*t was dope but at the same time as I was watched it I knew it would be divisive.
Fred.
Same. I loved it. I understand some of the criticism of the film, and I do wish for more.
Damn I’m bout to just spoil this for myself. Sounds like it was underwhelming huh
Nah. Don't listen, go see it for yourself.
I will say this about the film. It's atmospheric as shyt. Well shot. Spooky. Everything feels intentional. It's a bit of a slow burn at the start. If you're looking for an in your face, beat you over the head horror movie then adjust your expectations. It's the small details that unsettle you. The sounds, the eerie calm, every time you think you see something in the background. In that way I think the viral campaign kinda sent the wrong message to some people. It's not that. It is something sinister that gets inside you though and you'll likely feel a way coming out of the theater.
I will say that I hope there's a director's cut out there or something because I am curious as to whether the exposition dump that many are complaining about is Perkins' idea or if he felt rushed to wrap it up etc. While it doesn't take me out as much as some of our coli-brehs I do see how it can irk many because the movie did a lot more showing than telling up until that point. That being said, it didn't take me out as much.
Cage is great as Longlegs. While he is very much a Cage portrayed character, he is scary through all of the silliness. While he is over the top, he is still so fukking sinister that you can chuckle at his absurdity, but you still wouldn't turn your back on him, accept any gifts from him or stare too long. He's creepy as shyt. Monroe is good as the FBI Agent, some will complain about the character, but it makes sense when all is said and done. It's very well acted by everyone in it.
I really liked it. I think if you go in with as little as possible, you'll be solid.
