Warren Hughes, a descendant on the Betty Brown line of the family, packs up genealogy charts and materials related to the author of the Declaration of Independence and third US President Thomas Jefferson at the first official Sally Hemmings family reunion 12 July, 2003, on the steps of Jefferson's home in Monticello, Virginia. About 200 years ago, after the death of his wife, Martha, Thomas Jefferson had a relationship with his slave Sally Hemmings and fathered seven of her children and there may be as many as 3,000 descendants today according the family members that have researched the subject. This is Coleman Hughes - Grandfather.

His family was mentioned by Mr. Coates yesterday. Sally Hemings and his 3rd or 4th Grannie was Betty Brown. Sally's half-sister. Elizabeth Hemings was their mom. Yet he still spoke against reparations. THOUGH, his family is from Colonial Era slavery -- a few ran away -- and the others were freed during the 1830's - and lived as free people of color in D.C. -- and one line went to Liberia - like many colonial era black people who were freed.

Elizabeth Hemings Family | Thomas Jefferson's Monticello

Betty Brown listed with her children in Jefferson's Farm Book, Feb. 1

Dates alive:
1759–post 1831
Family:
Elizabeth Hemings Family
Occupation:
Enslaved domestic servant
In 1772, Elizabeth Hemings’s second daughter, Betty Brown, was the first of her family to come to Monticello, as the enslaved personal maid of Jefferson’s wife Martha. In the words of a member of Jefferson's family, Betty Brown was "quite a personage on the mountain." After almost sixty years of domestic work in the main house, she was one of the last of the Hemingses to live on the Monticello mountaintop, remaining there until the property was sold in 1831.

Described as “light colored & decidedly good looking,” Betty Brown had seven children who lived to adulthood. Among these were enslaved head gardener Wormley Hughes, enslaved Monticello butler Burwell Colbert, and enslaved nailmaker Brown Colbert. Her sons Edwin and Robert both became runaways after being given and sold away from Monticello. Her daughter Melinda Colbert Freeman married and lived in freedom in Washington, DC. Betty Brown died in the early 1830s, probably before her daughter Mary Colbert and son Brown Colbert chose to seek freedom in the African colony of Liberia in 1833.

So Ms. Dean asks a question about predatory lending and directs the question to Coates instead of Malveaux? She's an economist. :what:

Hopefully Roland Martin gives Malveaux an opportunity to address some of these questions.

Shout out to the Reverend for passing the mic to Malveaux and her calling out the silliness of how the questions were being doled out.

Danny Glover didn’t do so bad. They had Tanehesi Coates who was the mvp of the hearing, Dr. Malveux an economist who was hitting them with “the data” as y’all like to call it, Katrina Browne who also was hitting them with data and stone cold facts, and the lawyer who also made a very compelling case and was knowledgeable. Not to mention the congressional reps who spoke in our favor. Anyone who actually watched the hearing thought all of these people did great jobs.

Yet, while the republicans brought out 2 c00ns to shyt on us, the story you hear from the “new black media” misinformation machine aka Tariq, faceless Professor Black, Yvette and Tone is “the democrats failed”. shyt is hilarious and see through and it’s crazy that you dumb ass gullible nikkas keep falling for the shyt
I know you root for democrats, but people see for themselves what me & others were saying all this time, these fools are full of shyt

You got N'cobra(your people) to do their thing, and we ALL see how they are not prepared for this

They did this to themselves, don't blame others. The good thing is now black america is woke, and will go to who is prepared to do the work. N'cobra is so late, they made a twitter in March of this year!:leostare: And only to go against the ADOS movement:beli:

You just said a whole lot of nothing. Wtf does a twitter account have to do with a group of people who’ve been drafting reparations legislation for the last 20 years? You’re the type of dumb simple nikka who’d hire employees based on how many followers they have instead of merit.

What happened? Did you actually watch the hearing? It was successful by all accounts except for a couple of social media activists mad because they weren’t invited.

Obama be quiet then a muthufukka about any issue specifically about black Americans. If there were hearing regarding reparations for Jews he’d have an Instagram post up or statement out by now. But nikkas? He ain’t got shyt to say...but hey, we have to secure his legacy. “GO VOTE!!!”

Without Y.C or Tone,or any of the major figures of the reparations movement there, this council was meaningless, and only beneficial by the exposure of the issue to the general public.

Lol. Bro Tanehisi and Danny Glover were talking about reparations in 2008. Where you been? :dead:
