I took like 5 months off. (I couldn’t afford the classes) and I told my instructor he said don’t worry about it just keep coming. I went but didn’t feel like a man and told him I’ll come once I pay off my credit card. Didn’t go for a while again and people from the class hmu telling me to come.

Everybody I started with are pretty much blue belts now and kicking my ass.

Additionally, prices jumped to 225 a month. He told me don’t worry that since I started before I’m grandfathered with the original 125 price when I’m able to pay. Gotta say my instructor a real one for letting me rock like this.

Got my black belt.

Now I have to learn everything over again.

Standup game is ass. Learning judo privately.

Interesting enough. Studying judo makes a lot more sense then it did learning as a blue belt.
Congrats!! You prefer gi more?

I like GI because I can do gi and no GI techniques with the gi. No gi is obviously, just gi but I enjoy it as well. Less ability for my opponent to control me.
My new year resolution to train in thE GI this year. Always hated the grip battle that comes with the plus kinda fell in love with heel hooks 5yrs ago🤦🏽‍♂️. My son got his brown belt last month and wants to compete more in gi. So I got to get back into my bow and arrow chokes and single wings lol

I like the traditional techniques and I like chokes so gi favors that side of my game. I don't really work leg techniques much but I've forced myself to do it because I can use my failures to transition to x guard or escapong a 5050 and getting back to tight passing.

In reality most times you'll be faced with someone who has a shirt on at the least so gi work will always come in handy.

Single leg X also my go guard also like backside 50/50. No I trained due to being at a mma/folk style wrestling/no gi bjj gym. But I’m older now and it’s getting harder to keep up with those young bulls without nothing to hold on to lol. I love snap downs and blast doubles and darce chokes(I have really long arms)but my joints saying I gotta chill😅

Congratulations breh, I know it was long and brutal work to get there.

Judo is awesome and made my transition to BJJ easier since I reached my Black Black in the sport.

With Judo you can use your underhooks to close the gap on some of the throws since in no-gi we lose some of our gripping abilities.

A BB in either sport puts you lightyears ahead of the pack...

When you have a young bull who's taking the time to master leg locking systems that involve heel hooking and they're not even a blue belt you can find yourself getting embarrassed watching them go for your heal and feet like a deer in headlights. Especially when they're well over 200 lb

I spent a lot of time learning how to keep my legs away from those kind of players so I can just work tight passing. I don't want any part of someone's leg lock game but at these MMA gyms where anything goes, anything can happen

I think a lot of Jiu-Jitsu guys quietly have a secret admiration for judo players. I know I do. I feel like I need to become a grappler and not just a player of one style so that's going to take me down a rabbit hole of stand-up game, finger manipulation and knives. Not something I can practice in the dojo so it's another one of those private arts I try to teach myself with books from the Masters

What I learned after getting my black belt is that you really don't need to use much power to be a good player in this game. It's something you hear alot but when you understand the body mechanics and fundamentals you realize that the power you use is actually substituting for a technical gap in your game.

I say you should remember very clearly the times where you are forcing yourself to use all your power or a considerable amount to transition. There is always a move that will help you conserve a little more of that energy.

The flip side is you have to be physically strong to understand this because there is still a level of conditioning needed to control another human being, or is that also just a glaring technical gap :ohhh:

My gym does a trade like once every 2 months where my instructor will go to the Judo gym and the Judo instructor will come to our gym. Yea they go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly.

Then we have a former d1 wrestler -Brock lesnar ass ni*** who got blue belt fast as hell
