If I make another thread like this, it'll probably be about South Africa and its neighbours.

The North controls the country for a variety of reasons.
A) The Northern elites have succeeded in making Northern Nigeria into one political constituency. The South is divided into the South-West (Yoruba), South-South (Ijaw, Itsekiri and other groups) and the South-East (Igbo). Not even talking about the Middle Belt region.
B) The North has long dominated the Nigerian military. It started with the British who perceived the Hausa as a 'military-oriented tribe'. The coups of 1966 cemented Northern political domination of the country.
C) The North has a fairly large population.
D) Cowardice.

Naw, the reason is white supremacy. The white folks can easily control the Northerners. They don't believe in education like that.

This answer was correct in the colonial days. Nowadays, I think it's just Northern domination - pure and simple.

Nigeria should have a large military to deal with Boko Haram. Another big problem in Africa is there isn't a strong a black country with a strong military. You mean to tell me the strongest militaries in Africa is Egypt,Algeria,Tunisia and South Africa? That is pathetic. When a countries is internally weak it is prone to be picked apart from external forces. That is why African nations are fall into foreign intrigue because militarily they are weak. That has to be addressed.

1) Strong economy
2) Stable central government
3) Strong military
4) And sometimes an existential enemy that unites the people in a traumatic war (Russia).

Now what has kept Russia together was two things a massive military to maintain the peace in a massive empire. And a massive internal secret police force(FSB or in the US the FBI) to clamp down seperatist. Multi ethnic countires go down hill when the economy goes to shyt. If the economy crashed tomorrow you think the US will still be the United States? Nah the country will fall apart in a bloodbath the world will ever see. That is what happened to Yugoslavia and what is going on in Syria,Yemen and Iraq.

Yes Russia and China are both multi-ethnic... but you're not looking at the whole picture...
because one ethnic group completely dominates the others by a very large number...

Ethnic Russians are at 100 mill while the next largest ethnic group is at 5mill. So you can't really compare those places to the usa..



Because the ethnic numbers ain't like that over here. I do agree with your criteria for what holds a multi-ethnic state together. But that shyt doesn't, won't, and never has lasted

And no doubt the usa will fall.. that's baked into the cake.

I don't know about that one, for example Egypt is a poor country relatively speaking in comparison to Western countries, and they manage to keep their country unified despite those differences within the population.
