This video is by some Azerbaijani cat who makes geopolitical videos. His analysis in other countries are pretty good. He seems to be optimistic about Nigeria's future.

He's right that Nigeria's current unity is only maintained by oil rents. Without oil, Nigeria will cease to exist. Oil may be rendered a non-important resource this century. Nigeria's elites are not thinking about that possibility. They speak of diversification but they do not know how because of their statist economic tendencies.

I want Nigeria to succeed. Nigeria has the potential to be a great power that acts as a shield to protect black people all over the world, however its leadership has been either selfish or ignorant. But entirely arrogant.

In Haiti it is the same thing. Our leaders for CENTURIES have only thought of themselves and not the future of the nation. Nigeria needs a political revolution where the corrupt elites are taken out. Like minded politicians who can reform the economy.

Buhari attempted that approach in 1983-85. It failed. What will probably work is politicians (supported by civil society...if that ever truly emerges again in Nigeria) pushing for a programmatic agenda against corruption. But that's only one of Nigeria's problems.

A lot of Nigeria's problems come from being ruled by dictators off and on from 1966 to 1999.
A lot of Nigeria problems is white supremacy and always been. If you Black, I can pinpoint that to 99.9% of all our problems.

In. I'm personally interested in learning more about the country.

I've heard about the electricity issues in particular and how that has become a problem lately. What is the exact cause? I know you mentioned incompetent administration and oil issues, but is there anymore to the issue? What are they doing to address the issue now? Any information on whether there is infrastructure or technology issues at play causing the problem?

There was a BBC podcast documentary I listened to recently where some entrepreneurs in Nigeria stated that part of the challenge in maintaining a business is due to electricity issue.

You got any examples of that? :patrice:
Singapore.
Moorish Spain. Though in this case, there were still internal ethnic conflicts now and then, it wasn't some multicultural paradise (more like multi-religious but same thing) as some people like to claim but still relatively peaceful.

Singapore :rlylarson:

You know how much the govt does to make sure there are no ethnic issues there....They don't allow ethnic enclaves.. they force the people together.

"The optimism that was present, but from Nigerians and foreign investors, is gone. The idea that this government doesn’t really know what it is doing is firmly planted in the minds inception style. Finally there is still the small matter of central bank independence..."

They probably also need to swallow their pride and get an emergence loan from the IMF.

They have no choice. Buhari's statist economic ideas in addition to his huge borrowing will lead to this outcome.

There's always a choice :manny:

and statist economic ideas ain't bad.. as long as the people implementing things are smart
