nikkas got this all wrong
Carlito was a damn fool... out here being a boss, while running dumb ass criminal errands for his coked up lawyer... any of that could have him dead or in jail again... then beating up another kid on the come up, but letting him live, not even keeping eyes on him... knowing he was running shyt in the bronx and was looking to rise up
fukk he thought he was just gonna run away with that ugly broad on the train... i mean damn... nikka didn't even drive out of town
scarface was doing just fine... the ONLY mistake he made, was not killing kids.. had he said fukk it and let dude blow up the car, alex would have been cool. they'd have kept making money... maybe manny dies, maybe tony comes home in a better mood and doesn't kill him
but everything else would have been cool
why people love scarface is cause he came from nothing and took over... came out in the 80s.. miami was that life.. coke was everywhere.. everyone was dealing.. crack started coming out.. and everyone was watching like "damn this could be me... little ghetto nikka just taking what he want and making it rich"
Firstly, in Scarface he was gonna chainswaed the fukk up, so he started with a huge L.....secondly, he broke rule number 1, never get high off your own supply. Thirdly (and this is the important one), he thought he was big time, while still needing a supplier...it was a tale about foolish ambition.
In Carlito's Way yes he was still doing criminal acts, but that stops when he gets the 30k and opens up the night club. As we see, all Carlito had to do was kill Benny, that's it. In Scarface, he was far too gone, and he was gonna get wrapped up quick...killing cops?
You're done. And he didn't take over, he had a spot, but there's no way he was gonna surpass Sosa. In fact, he was still taking orders from Sosa till the very end. Tony thought ignoring his one and only supplier/boss was gonna end well for him? That's called delusion my friend.
Carlito was out of the game, he simply had to kill one guy and he would've taken that train to freedom. In Scarface, Tony was a deluded cokehead (redundant as it may sound), and eventually thought he could take on a death squad.
.
People love Scarface because its a gangster film, the same way people like King of New York, it was cool to be a shot caller (still is), but what many in the audience tend to forget, is that many of these gangsters are just lackey's to the real boss. Basically both die due to one major flaw, however, Tony was pushing everyone away and was passed saving, a guy like that is gonna get killed eventually, either by the DEA or Sosa.
