DMX doesn't get enough respect from hip hop fans. Second artist in hip hop history to release 2 albums in the same year and they both went #1 , only other artist to do that was 2pac.

:stop: dmx did it with his music, 2pac had to use his a whole lot of bs drama.

I agree 100% there is nothing wrong with a debate here and there, Jay is one of the GOATS to me, but these dudes throwing personal insults and shyt as if Jay is their older brother :russ: And if these stans want to talk about numbers, wasn't Lauryn Hill's album one of the top selling albums of 98? :skip: So I guess Lauryn Hill had 98 on lock then right:skip: not to mention didn't she take most of the awards by a hip hop artist the grammy's, so according to Jigga stan logic, Lauryn Hill>>>>>>Jay-Z>X

I agree with what you said at the end there. Lauryn has her own lane and didn't really compete with X and Jigga - but she was undoubtedly bigger.

Pac's music Starting with Me Against The World and on is pretty unassailable. Although I'm not as in love with AEOM as some others.

Jay-z stan checking in here and as a child in harlem/bx we was all on the Ruff Ryders wave, Jay-z had more cross over hits and sold more i guess but DMX was bigger in my environment at the time as i remember, the power shift came in 2000

:snoop: as if dude wasn't all over the news for the wrong reasons at the time. all that negative publicity helped promote his music more than the music itself. that helped him out a whole lot.

dmx was known because of his music which put him at the top of the chart. that's the difference.

X was that nikka from 1998-2000 and I say that as a former Jay-Z stan

X sold 12 million albums between 1998 to 2000, did Exit Wounds, Romeo Must Die and Belly. He was everywhere. Another thing X was excellent at....when alot of artists come in, they look inexperienced. Especially next to veteran artists. X just had that air about him that was like he been in the game for 10 years already. I mean.....he was NEW nikka in Belly but, Nas really came off like his lil nikka. I know that was the script, Buns the leader but, X just had that energy about him that that's what it was in real life too :birdman:

And X....just exemplified "Grimy New York nikka". He represented New York better than Jay-Z to me :manny:

you are a hypocrite u gonna say that about pac but then talk about dmx and said that as if dmx did'nt use his gangster image to sell records fukk out of here !

did you read what i wrote?

tupac was getting locked up and shot at. his music started to get more attention after he started to get in trouble, locked up, shot at and etc. dmx got publicity for his music, not his rap sheet.

Your claim that negative publicity helped to promote Pac's music more than the music itself is just your opinion. There's no way that you could possibly quantify that.

So do you disagree that the music was top shelf?

I dont question that he had a lot of attention on him for a lot of reasons that had nothing to do with music. "All Eyes On Me" right?

if his music was top shelf, it would speak louder than his rap sheet. the funny thing is after all the negative publicity he started getting, his entire image changed to go along with it. let's not act like pac's whole entire career was based off of the thug life shyt he rapped about. dude was talking all this positivity shyt then as soon as he starts getting into serious trouble, gets some movie roles of some billy badasses, he's screaming thug life. he used that shyt to make himself a star and sell records.

dmx on the other hand just made gangster music. he didn't need to go out and get in trouble in order to help feed his music career like pac did.

This IS a thread giving him props. I mentioned nothing but how successful his year was and how he had a dominant year. Not saying nothing like "DMX RULED WITH A IRONFIST, WHAT JIGGA DO"? Cotdamn you nikkas are dumb:snoop:

Fair enough. I'll take you at your word that you didn't realize what you were saying.

That's a vague and evasive response.

And again - opinion.

Just answer the question.

:laff: no, it's not. i'm keeping factual. you are asking for my opinion which is only just that an opinion. you are being evasive yourself by hoping that i say that his music is top shelf and acting like my opinion would reflect millions of others who may not share the same opinion as i do. plus that time was different compared to now. we're talking damn near 20 years ago. an opinion cannot be a fact.

i'm stating facts. pac's negative publicity made people pay attention to his music. it's not like people were flocking to pac's music before when they were playing it on the radio. if that wasn't true, explain how pac's record sales went up later on in his music career when he was really getting into trouble where his name was all over the news and press. let's be real. how many people were fukking with 2pac's music like that when he first dropped with his first two albums? his career started to blow up when he started to incorporate his life and his music together. dude started to become widely known in the mid 90s which was when he got charged with rape, locked up, shot up, released, beefing with biggie and puff and etc. his drama=record sales.
