Here we go again, why do you insist on arguing the person instead of the points? Why would you even look at my history? How is it relevant to the points I brought up? If you think I'm wrong it should be on the merits of the argument I put forth, not my posting history. Like I said before:

Regarding the topic: Of course "Lauryn Hill in 98>>>>>Jay-Z", how is that even debatable? Which also proves my point that DMX did not rule with an iron fist, he didn't even rule. The Survival of the Illest was not a big tour, it was all small venues, you can't honestly compare the two. Belly being a hood classic is not indicative of success, it was a flop, making a thread asking peoples opinions about it won't change that. This thread is about running 98, you can't point to a flopped movie and call it a highlight of his year.

Finally, I've seen a lot of ridiculous Jay threads as well, and you don't see me in those either. Of course I'm biased, I'm biased about a lot of things. I think The Yankees are the GOAT team, I think Polo is the GOAT label, I think Breaking Bad is the GOAT TV show, who gives a fuk? Can you prove me wrong? That's the question. Discussions are what these forums should be about, but instead you want to analyze me. It makes no sense.

So you admit your bias which is proving my point, thanks Jay stan, so of course you were going to think Jay was bigger due to your bias. Proving my point, another W for me :umad:

I was 11 and in SOUTH jersey during 1998.

I always believed 1998 went 1. Lauryn 2. Jay 3. X 4. Outkast 5. Master P

U couldnt touch Lauryn that year so I wont even bring it up.

Jay Z killed Summer 1998-on. X had everything UP until Money Aint A Thang/Can I get A.. hit that summer.

You can almost say Jay took X's buzz.

X had a crazy end to 97 with a strong opening in 98. He was losing steam by the time "Hows it Goin Down" dropped. Which explains how he was able to drop the 2 cds in one year. They wanted to get his buzz back up before he went on JAY Z's tour.

Also, this 2nd #1 cd....while impressive
1. Came out 10 days before christmas
2. Was not good
3. Its 2 best songs were Slippin and the one with Jay Z

Not takin anything away from it....but X's two best cds were clearly that 1st and 3rd:jawalrus:

You've gotta be 12 years old, its the only thing that makes sense. I should've known when you admitted you were taking your cousins word instead of actually having any knowledge on the subject.

You admitted your bias so the whole argument was you being one sided with your views, you admitted that, you're quick to go in a thread defending Jay, but when someone dikkrides him and is bias like you, you don't say anything, hence showing your fox news point of view, no need to keep going with you, you already admitted your ignorance. Lets just move on.

Everyone has a bias, most just won't admit it because they think they're reputation on a hip hop forum is too important. If I was an e-stalker who cared enough to analyze your post history I'm sure I'd see a pattern of bias as well. And my views were never relevant, nor were they even brought up. If you weren't so busy being on my dik you would actually argue the facts I posted, but you can't so you resort to childish games and emoticons.

No one is on your dikk, news flash, everyone on here has high speed internet, you have 100 posts, and only 5 pages of your viewing history, how long do you seriously think that would take me to view 5 pages? Maybe you still live in 98 where people had dial up internet and it took days to load a single page, I've said it again, it only took a minute to see your posts, I just thought you were an alias at first, Which is all facts and something you can't argue, point is, you admitted to having a one sided view, and admitted if it was another rapper you wouldn't care so much since Jay is your fav, so now let's move on, well wait.... I'll move on, considering that whenever you post again it'll be about you know who :skip:

I was a senior in High School. I was there. X ran 98. Jay really didn't feel the benefit's of "Hard Knock Life" more until 99. Also why is everyone bringing up the "Hard Knock Life" tour when that was mostly in 99? X again had 2 #1 albums in the same year. Only Pac did that and he died the year it happen to him. He also had a movie and soundtrack a ton of features that was smashing the game. "Can I Get Ah" did blow up Jay as the fall was rolling around but he still wasn't Bigger than X overall in the streets.

Yes other artist had a great 98 too. There was only one artist I could say was Bigger than X and that was Lauryn but she crossed over with "Miseducation". Master P ran the south at that point also. I was one of Jay's Day 1 fans so I know his rise perfectly well. "Hard Knock Life" is where Jay Z got most of his fans this is why people are trying to spin how Big he was in 98. The bottom line is this. X came in the game and smashed shyt the WHOLE Year period. Jay did not smash the ENTIRE 98. Therefor how was he bigger than X when X had features at the beginning of the year, dropped an album that basically shut down the summer. Dropped a movie and another album in winter. That's running a YEAR. Jay was hot in the 4th Quarter, hardly dominating a year. Also look at this cover of "Backstage". Yes "HKL" was Jay's breakout album but it didn't feel most of the success of that till 99.

DMX face is just as Big as Jay Z on this poster and he was the rookie.

You are forgetting that the roll out for the Vol 2 album started before Can I Get A dropped in the summer. It's Alright (which was originally on the Streets Is Watching Soundtrack) wa bubbling in the first quarter that year which is why it was included as a bonus track on Vol 2. Same thing with Money Ain't a Thing (which was on Dupri's album first) and was a very big record starting in the spring. Then Can I Get A and Hard Knock Life were very big records in the summer. So, actually, it's not accurate to say that Jay wasn't bubbling the whole year.

Again - not to say that X didn't also have a monster 98.

I feel you and I'm dapping you cause you made a good point about how "Money ain't a thing" did blow during the summer was featured on JD albums 1st and that album did OK summer of 98. but "It's Alright" also came out summer time not spring. It was officially released in Aug. He did have "Street's is Watching" dropped summer as well as "Money ain't a thing" but Jay didn't run that summer, X did.

Also "Street's Watching" even though it eventually went Plat it wasn't a huge soundtrack at that time. "Belly" did better than it on the charts. Also DMX was on that album as well as "HKL". Jay was on X 2nd album. Jay basically came at the end of the 3rd quarter onto the 4th quarter. X was bubbling for ever single quarter of 1998.

(Belly soundtrack came out Nov 98 and debut at #5 on the Billboard 200)

Here's all the features DMX was on in 98:

1998 "Money, Power & Respect"
1998 "We Be Clubbin' (remix)
1998 "Murdergram"
1998 "Shut 'Em Down"
1998 "We Got This" John Forté Poly Sci
1998 "Get Your shyt Right" Jermaine Dupri, The Madd Rapper Life in 1472
1998 "Freestyle Over Mobb Deep's "Give Up the Goods (Just Step)"" Funkmaster Flex The Mix Tape, Vol. III
1998 "Whatcha Gonna Do?" Jayo Felony, Method Man Whatcha Gonna Do?
1998 "Money, Cash, Hoes" Jay-Z Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life
1998 "Top Shotter" Sean Paul, Mr. Vegas Belly
1998 "You Don't Hear Me Though"
1998 "Nowhere to Run" Ozzy Osbourne, Ol' Dirty b*stard, The Crystal Method, Fuzzbubble South Park: Chef Aid
1998 "Ruff Ryders' Anthem (remix)" DJ Clue, Jadakiss, Styles P, Drag-On, Eve The Professional
1998 "It's On" DJ Clue

That's not counting both albums and the Belly Soundtrack. And again he started the year still on fire from his late 97 callabo's that bleed over. Nobody is saying Jay didn't have a good 98 but the thread said X ruled with an Ironfist and when you think about it.

He did by again being hot the entire year from beginning to end. Jay's biggest songs in 98 were "Money ain't a Thing, Can I get a and Hard Knock Life". "That's Alright and Money, Cash, Hoes" were the huge street anthems. So again I don't want to take nothing from Jay but X clearly ruled longer in 98.

Tell me 1998 did smash sh!t and this was the end of the 90's when I would say Hip Hop started to fall off. Damn, every year in the 90's was great.

*Sorry I forgot to include "N.O.R.E", huge oversight, that album killed it in the summer of 98, one of favs from that year. The features, the Production. Nore's delivery and voice. Neptunes really blowing up after "looking at me" from Ma$e. Really good album:

I'm from the tri state area and yeah at that time X was pretty much running shyt here. Can't speak on other coast, but here u couldn't turn on the radio or MTV/BET without seeing dude.

Ms. Hill was doing her thing, but no one was seeing X in hip hop.

DMX should be respected for

1.Killing that bullshyt pop movement started by Puff at the time and bringing hip hop back to the streets.

2.Literally coming up the hardway. He didn't get no deal on some Industry Plant shyt like these nikkas today. X went in and killed features left and right along with battling on the streets.

3. Put out songs for the bytches and didn't softened up his sound.

4. Putting out ANOTHER album titled Flesh of My Flesh Blood of My Blood the same exact year and going #1 .

5. Being possibly one of the best stage performers of all time. I seen this cat perform weeks ago and even though many may talk that shyt about him being a crackhead, None of these new cats can light up a stage like X.

You were at the Durham Nas show too? :ohhh:
