Everything from the time you witnessed it is viewed through rose colored glasses. Every. Single. Thing. Nothing is ever as great as your memories and emotion tells you it was. ECW had a lot of meh but it did a lot right too, just like the attitude era, just like the era before that and the one before that. There's a 9 or 10 year old out there right now who loves the shyt he has in WWE right now but in another 10 or 12 years, he'll look back at it and say the same shyt we say about the stuff from our time as kids. That's life.
The one thing the attitude era had over this era by leaps and bounds is storytelling. I'm not saying all the stories were great because Mae young giving birth to a hand is stupid and ridiculous and any other adjective you can think of. But that era was great at making sure everyone had a story and that the audience invests in every single person on the roster from top to bottom and there were never matches for the sake of matches.
