i feel like all the decaying bodies and dead zombies could've easily seeped into the soil/ground waterIt's gotta be the soil that made the animals sick. They eat the grass and so on. The pigs wallow in the dirt and mud. Most likely the OGs won't get sick but the new people who haven't built up their immunity will be the first ones to go. Of course they won't figure this out before cats start losing their minds and tearing ish up.
