she had tons of help on Miseducation as well. Her came and Sony tried to make it seem like she was a musical genius who could write, sing, produced and play instruments because it fit the narrative for an album that was making everyone money.

But that lawsuit against her put an end to that and her going off the deep end sent her to the bushes permanently even tho people were willing to give her a pass for years.

Who said she didn't have help on Miseducation? She definitely didn't write every word, play all the instruments or entirely produce all the songs. That was NEVER what the lawsuit was about or even something that was claimed by Lauryn or the label. The issue was PROPER credit distribution.

The lawsuit didn't put an end to Lauryn doing everything by herself because anyone who bought the album and read the credits knew better.

If Columbia/Sony had their way, Lauryn's album was going to be produced by The Track masters (read the oral history of Miseducation). She didn't want to go in that direction, so she brought in her own crew (The New Ark group) along with James Poyser, and Che Vicious.

Breh, if she made a legendary album, she's a legend. Legends are legends because they did something legendary. You're an idiot as are those who co-signed and dqpped that garbage.

So Sir Mix a lot and Vanilla Ice are legends? One can argue they had legendary albums that produced multi platinum singles....so you're either gonna redefine the definition or great album = legend? Nah I can't prescribe to that.

I can agree with you on Vanilla Ice. Because I dont like his album, even though it sold millions. Thats a commercial pop record, by someone using hiphop for fame.

But if Nas only ever dropped Illmatic he for sure would be a legend in my book, off the strength of that 1 album alone. Even though that album took years to go platinum.

Lauryn is not a one hit wonder. She had classic verses and tracks on the Fugees albums and made a universally acclaimed solo record. That also went diamond, while still being fresh and true to herself. The Unplugged album was great as well, with some new songs that are amazing (Mystery of Inequity).

Theres not one doubt in my mind that Lauryn Hill is a legend if you look at the contribution she made to hiphop and R&B. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this...

So which is it? Selling a lot or contributing to rap? People are moving the goal posts. I can't buy into one legendary = Legendary status. You could be riding a wave or get lucky (Adele), or you could higher some of the best beat makers Timbaland, Pharrell, etc and have one hell of a solid platinum album. Its all "commercial" since everyone wants to make money, thats the goal first. I consider DOOM a legend, and I don't believe he's had one platinum album. Nor did he contribute to hip hop as strong as most....but that needs to be clearly defined.

No they don't have a legendary album. Breh, Lauryn Hill won five Grammys for that album, one of which was the coveted Album of the Year. That album is registered in the Library of Congress. It is on the Vatican's list of significant works even AFTER she dissed them to their faces. That album still gets articles written on it yearly.

Tell me which Vanilla Ice and Sir Mix A Lot albums are getting that treatment. And more to the point, when Hip Hop albums that went diamond were discussed when they added Lauryn's, why were Sir Mix A Lot, Hammer and Vanilla Ice absent from the list.

So winning multiple grammy's for an album makes you a legend? Okay, thats how you feel, I can't agree.

I have never seen that been used as the definition of a legendary album. Particularly not in the HipHop/RnB space. Sounds ridiculous.

On these forums, I've seen it all, and I would agree its ridiculous. But this is where it gets skewed, because people want to move the goal posts, first it has to be sales, then albums, if not albums, it has to be prominent, but for each case, there's somebody like Vanilla Ice, who we all agree isn't a legend.

You idiot, you've already established the album is legendary. If the album is legendary, how is Lauryn Hill not a legend?

I just explained several reasons why the album is legendary beyond it selling 10 million units. And I see you didn't address any of the other points.

Vanilla Ice is NOT a legend because all anyone remembers from is like two songs. His album sold a lot of copies, but it had no impact on the culture. There's a difference.
