It is the contribution to rap. How is that not clear in my post. I dont give a fukk about album sales.

And I can agree with that point, if we find common ground with contribution to rap, which it can't solely be, since MF DOOM, BIG L, and Immortal are all legends in my book, but didn't contribute much if anything to rap as a whole, beyond being top tier lyricists.

Using your logic - Milli Vanilli went diamond....first pop album by a french duo to go diamond....using your point here in saying Pun is legendary. Okay....so if Pun is legendary, so are Milli right?

You're wrong, where's Milli Vanilli's albums on this list:

List of best-selling albums in France - Wikipedia

^^^ if they were the first to do it, surely their album would be on this list.

Agreed on the common ground. And I def agree DOOM is a legend, but I do think he had a big contribution to hiphop that shouldn't be understated. Hell, Madvilllainy alone is a top tier timeless classic that transcended the underground. While I agree on BIG L being a legend, I am kinda lost why you do also, given your whole reasoning why Lauryn isn't one because she in your words "only had 1 legendary album". That doesn't seem to add up?

Best move on then you're contradicting yourself and can't believe something can be mutually exclusive from another....your issue is one of conflation, its flawed logic.

Breh, a lot of things are mutually exclusive. Legend and legendary isn't one of them. Please explain how the two are mutually exclusive. Your first post is a contradiction and definitely flawed logic.

All you've posted is a bunch of false equivalences with a futile attempt to prove your point (if you ever had one).

For me its not arbitrary but its also hard to define what makes an artist legendary. I can't solely agree however, that one legendary album = a legendary act. Mainly because the lines have been blurred and the goal posts shifted so much. Artistically, lyrically, for one*, Big L, and DOOM move me, and of course many others. I suppose that's the part that I can agree in the thread, I know for a fact lying once or twice doesn't make you a liar, in that sense having one album surely doesn't make you a legend, even if said album is top tier.

It depends on the impact of the lies. If the lie is huge, you did it on purpose and it affects loads of people in a bad way, you def a liar
:manny:

Same with classic records. With Miseducation, the impact of the record was huge. I was 16 when it dropped and remember it like yesterday. It was everywhere. Not in a Vanilla Ice kinda way, but in an artistic and respectable way, pushing hiphop further. With a fresh record and sounds that came from her heart. As a bonus, that shyt went diamond.

And you're logically incorrect on two accounts:

1) Bias. Whatever moved you (or me or any individual poster) is beside the point

2) Logic. Lying once does in fact make you a liar. If you murder once, you are indeed a murderer.

Obviously, you lack any logical merit when making this thread.

And this is the idiocy of the thread, the OP claims Lauryn Hill is not legend, but makes the case why she is a legend (by stating she has a legendary album) and never provides any supporting facts to prove why she isn't.

And just to really drive the point home of how ludicrous this whole thread is, Lauryn's legend is comprised of more than just one album:

61mwwXvLcnL._SL1500_.jpg

"The magazine says the girl should have went solo"--- Wyclef, "Zealots" from The Score addressing Vibe magazine saying Lauryn should've went solo and this was when the debut album was out

^^^ contribution both lyrical and musical to yet another huge album

^^^ One of Common's best songs and she directed the video.

^^^ Classic Nas song featuring Lauryn Hill

^^^ lyrical and musical contribution to this one

^^^ working with an icon.

But Lauryn is not a legend according to the OP. And the OP continued to a long line of comparing Lauryn to a Milli Vanilli, Sir Mix A Lot and a Vanilla Ice. :camby:

its not her records per se,its the impact she had on other artists, her writing abilities and the fact she almost became a sort of prototype for young black women during her height, she went bat shyt instead but the narrative made it that more relatable for young women going through similar relationship drama. She might only have one legendary album but her name is etched into our collective consciousness, that makes her a legend in my book.
