:patrice: I kinda understand you but it made me think different.

Basically, legends are like a tree, and lineages being branches, and their progeny or contributions are their fruits.

I know Nicki claims Lauryn as an inspiration yet Nicki doesn't display Lauryn in her music career nor her imagery.

Outside of that, who exactly and what exactly has Lauryn inspired?

Ms. Hill remains this anomaly that brings about frustration when really weighing her place in the canon.

Lauryn Hill was kinda in the same tier as Aaliyah and Mary J. Blige. Female artists that sung over fly melodic hip hop soul beats that dudes weren’t ashamed to listen to. Mary was more grown, Aaliyah more swaggy and Lauryn more soulful but, if you liked one, you most likely liked the others. You can hear Lauryn’s influence in Jazmine Sullivan, H.E.R., Snoh Allegra, Solange. And of course all these rappers like Drake and J Cole are just guys that grew up listening Aaliyah, Lauryn and Mary, and incorporated that soulful melodic feel to their records.

You can hear Lauryn in both of these songs

I actually see and hear elements of all three (Lauryn, Aaliyah and Mary) on here.

This song is beautiful and would’ve fit right in on The Miseducation. Even has the piano riffs that would blend seamlessly with the school classroom skits :wow:

As long as you’re not in the camp of people that say cats like Fabolous and Jim Jones are legends then I could go with you on this one. If she had continued her run after Miseducation then she would be solidified but unfortunately she went crazy instead

she had tons of help on Miseducation as well. Her came and Sony tried to make it seem like she was a musical genius who could write, sing, produced and play instruments because it fit the narrative for an album that was making everyone money.

But that lawsuit against her put an end to that and her going off the deep end sent her to the bushes permanently even tho people were willing to give her a pass for years.
