Lets be real, Lauryn had a A1 songwriting/production team for Miseducation. She deserves props for performing the material so well but theres a reason she is basically a 1 album wonder(as a solo artist):manny

The score was the Fugees....a group....again, one Album doesn't make you a legendary group either.

Gtfo, Lauryn was all over the Fugees albums. By this logic, Q-Tip cant be a legend because of him being a member of A Tribe Called Quest. I sure hope you are not trying to say Q-tip isn't a legend, are you o.p.?

This is why some people shouldn't be allowed to voice her opinion lmao

if you made a legendary album, that makes you legendary lmao, that's pretty much the requirement to be a legend in music is to make a legendary album

Actually I don't measure legendary status by albums, but rather, the skill, longevity and able to repeat said performance, ala DMX, Lox, MF DOOM, etc...Q tip is a legend easily, he was Tribe, a terrible solo career doesn't mean he's not a legend. Bizzy and Krayzie are legends, for example.

Well how do you feel about Biggie's status? His career was sadly cut short, causing him to not be able to succeed his classic 2 albums. Not a legend also by your logic? The longevity is not there.

BIG Daddy Kane is a legend to me after his first 2 albums. He hasn't been able to repeat that success on his later albums in the nineties. Not a legend also?

Also, the same as you say Q-Tip was Tribe, goes for Lauryn and the Fugees and their 2 albums.

I can respect your logic for legends, but dont agree with it all. You can be a legend by 1 album alone in my book. If Nas only dropped Illmatic, that feat alone would make him a legend in my view.

To be fair, Big was a movement, everybody loved his flow, cadence, delivery, etc. But I would argue, that creating one legendary album does not make one a legend simply*. If thats the case Vanilla Ice is a legend.....and I will never see him as such. The reality is that people want to neg and jump on the bandwagon, but can't accept that she was literally a one hit wonder. Is her album legendary? Of course, but she couldn't replicate it in the slightest, and one can strike oil, you can be that lucky (Sir Mix a lot, Vanilla Ice, Milly, etc) That doesn't mean you're a legend.

I can agree with you on Vanilla Ice. Because I dont like his album, even though it sold millions. Thats a commercial pop record, by someone using hiphop for fame.

But if Nas only ever dropped Illmatic he for sure would be a legend in my book, off the strength of that 1 album alone. Even though that album took years to go platinum.

Lauryn is not a one hit wonder. She had classic verses and tracks on the Fugees albums and made a universally acclaimed solo record. That also went diamond, while still being fresh and true to herself. The Unplugged album was great as well, with some new songs that are amazing (Mystery of Inequity).

Theres not one doubt in my mind that Lauryn Hill is a legend if you look at the contribution she made to hiphop and R&B. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this...
