Front office should've had a plan to clear cap space that doesn't involve trading our most valuable player. Why did Mills sign THJR to begin with? And then that contract was not that atrocious that a top 5 young player in the NBA should be used to get rid of.

Even if Porzingis didn't demand a trade shouldn't they have tried to clear cap space for two max players?

Why not include Lee in the Willy trade? Why not trade Lee when he was good last year?

Why not use second round picks or future protected picks to get rid of bad contracts? If your idea is that you're signing two max players then trading some picks won't be a big deal. Since with two max players and Zion (or whoever) we will be a guaranteed playoff team.

People are saying that this might be the best trade in history? :mindblown: It will be good if 3 things happen that haven't happened in last 30 years of this franchise.

1. Sign a top tier free agent to a max deal.
2. Sign a second top tier free agent in the same year.
3. Win the lottery and draft a player that will be a star.

That's a whole lot of things that need to happen, a single one of those hasn't happened to us and now we're expecting all 3? :gucci:

Listen, my biggest complaint with this trade was we could have traded Tim and Lee this summer but Tim McMahon intimated that teams knew how desperate we are to get those contracts off our books so they were planning to rape us this summer. Thinking it would have took probably 3 future firsts to get rid of those guys while we tried to convince KD and another guy to sign. They also planned on offering KP a max deal and if KP (who hasn’t seemed to cooperate at all) signs the offer sheet, that gives the knicks 5 days to match. So that’s 5 days after July 1st to move Tommy, Lee and sign KD and Kyrie before we lose KP for nothing.

Now sure, we got ourselves into this situation. But dudes cousins story seems plausible. You have a young star who doesn’t seem to want to get on the same page as you, this looming threat of juggling multiple plates during a highly sensitive free agency process where any slight mistake blows everything up in your face and you have a deal that can make that job about 85% easier and they took it. I do think they gave KP one last chance to get on board. I don’t think he wanted to be traded necessarily but he planned on doing what was best for him this summer since the team refused to make him the sole focal point and the knicks decided they weren’t going to take that chance.

Now, I’m wondering about the bird rights thing, i think it’s the key to not losing all our young pieces in a trade for a third star (ala Bradley Beal if not AD). But I think we will need to renounce everyone in order to get the money to get Kyrie and KD and you lose bird rights that way.

I'm not harping over trading KP, I'm harping over trading him for cap space and mediocre talent (DSJ).

And according to Chris Mannix tweet they didn't do much of calling around to see what they could get.
Why make calls, which seems untrue, because there's also reports NO didn't want him, when one team gave them everything they wanted? Knicks got two 1st rounders a young talent and unloaded all of their bad contracts.....on one team. Hate more.

:philjacksonlol2: CACzingis is acting real crazy outchea...

:francis: But I’ll tell you guys something - no need to talk crazy about the kid. He’s a kid after all and we really don’t have the details of what really went on behind the scenes. Let’s just remember all the good times that we we had while he was here... :wow: :mjcry:

:mjcry: You know they say if you truly love something, let it go and if it comes back then it was truly yours, but if it didn’t then it was never yours in the first place... :wow:

:mjcry: Goodbye, CACzingis. Best of luck, breh.:wow:

This trade is possibly one of the best trades they've ever made in the history of their franchise. It gives them 3 options.

Option 1, use the cap space to acquire two WORTHY max contracts.

Option 2, if they can't get the right free agents sit on it and build through the draft while acquiring short-term deals until you can get the RIGHT max contract free agents.

Option 3, use the cap space to allow other teams to shed contracts while acquiring more 1st round picks.

This trade could potentially set us up for the next decade.

Edit* And we got DSJ on a rookie deal.

Yeah, I also think that a lot of people are starting to realize this and the lol knicks is quieting down. Especially when they factor in dude is still gonna miss most if not all the season.
KP asked for a trade. We didn't openly shop KP around hoping to relieve cap. We checked everything off the list in terms of what we would want in return. "we couldn't get more than dsj" For one, we created space for 2 max contracts this summer + future 1st round picks that can be used down the line (aka what Boston been doing since 2012). We got DJ and Wes who might reel us in some more assets come Thursday's deadline. And two, if by "more" you mean a star player in return, then you're messing up a season-long tank for the first seed. Also, DSJ is a 20 year old lottery pick coming off a stellar rookie season, put at least some respect on his name

I read Woj said that KP's preferred destinations were the Spurs, Clippers, and Nyets.

Yeah like certain teams could have given us cap space and a young player, (like the Clippers) but would they give be us draft picks since they need to rebuild their own roster? Then other teams could give us youth and picks (Spurs) but they can't give us cap space. The Nyets could do all three but fukk trading to a division rival in the same city. KP is being insufferable going to Dallas I can't imagine his bytch ass tweets going to the Nyets. Also I doubt they move picks after how bad they got scammed for Pierce/KG/Crash.

On another note I expect the Mavs to tank this year. This is their very tiny window to get a pick before they got to start paying the pipers.

Lottery odds are so gonzo they work their way into a bottom 10 team and they have decent odds of moving into the 1-4 range

Yep, he didn't want to be here. So now he's where he wants to be.

dallas is not NYC as a city (to put it nicely). they're not going to make any real noise in the west for the foreseeable future unless they get another star AND he stays healthy/improves. he's gonna cause problems there too, guaranteed.

i, personally, can't wait :mjgrin::mjgrin::mjgrin:
