If we have 1 max slot, i wouldn’t sign Jimmy. He’s not the sole missing piece. Don’t get me wrong, he would help us and make us better but not enough to warrant his contract. With 1 max slot I’d take Kyrie, Klay, KD and Kawhi easily. If not just roll the money over into 2020. If we can grab two max guys than absolutely I’ll take Jimmy as the second guy. No questions asked.

Its a tough call for me with Jimmy, ive always been a fan of his. I for damn sure dont want him to be the first free agent we sign next year, im with yall on that

Hes gonna be 29 in September which means he'll be 30 next year when we would be getting him. So id say his first 2 years would be the end of his prime, at 32 he'll be declining. On a 4 year deal i dont think those last 2 years will be too bad, he'll still be good at 33 and 34 in my opinion.

But the rest of the teams younger and even if we got Kyrie hes still younger, i guess id be ok with Butler either way but like @RickyGQ said he should not be the first player we target

I don't think any of Kyrie, Klay or Jimmy would be the sole missing piece. KD or Kawhi maybe but that still requires growth from the youth. The thing is, no matter who we sign, I'm clocking in an additional top five pick projection for our draft slot. I don't think rolling over capspace is feasible either because KP is an RFA after the season. So if I'm not mistaken, this is the offseason to get max value out of our available cap space and then go over the cap to lock up KP long term.

Good point. I think if we punt in 2019 we still have a max slot in 2020 tho between the cap rising another 5 or so million, not having to stretch Noah and KP’s max only being about 25 million. Especially if we keep doing shyt like this...

I haven't done the math but did you factor in a top pick salary? Also, I assume this is complicated further if we want to bring back one of Burke or Hezonja (there are others but not as high chance we want 'em back). The other thing to consider is the full FA class. The reason this offseason looks so good is because there are a bunch of high value players heading into or in their primes. Giannis would be an amazing get but missing on him and being left with subpar options when we passed on guys like Butler, Klay or Kyrie just doesn't strike me as a worthwhile risk unless we know something others don't or that FA class has enough names that we can hedge our bets.

Yea i here you. That’s why i hope we can make our to two slots. Especially since Brooklyn already has two. And rookie deals don’t hit the books until after the summer i believe.

Maybe for first round picks? I know we had to carve out cap space for Mitch with an exception from the reporting on it with the Hezonja signing. But I admit, capology is prolly my weakest area.
