I agree with
@storyteller, next year will be New York's best shot to maximize their cap space, the Knicks will have one more shot the next year but they certainly won't be able to maneuver for two max slots like they can this off-season. Plus, the free agent list after the next free agency kind of sucks, whereas the free agent class in 2019 is one of the best, most fleshed out from top to bottom we've had in a while. I'm not passing over Kyrie, Butler, or KD when any one of those guys, plus a top draft pick and KP getting back from injury can get you to the finals in the east. Get two of those guys and no one is fukking with the Knicks in the east at all. Once KP gets that extension the core is gonna be essentially locked so we're in use it or lose it territory in regards to cap space. Also I'm taking Butler over Klay UNLESS we're getting Kyrie too, then I'd prefer Kyrie and Klay. I want someone who can step in and operate as a 1 or second option when need be because I don't think KP's issues with anemia will ever let him be a #1 option over the course of the season. I think the moment Klay is forced to put the ball on the floor and create for others because he doesn't have a consistent #1 to rely on, his game is gonna suffer on both ends. Plus, dude has a tendency to disappear for stretches
Butler might not be flamethrower Klay is, but he's easily the more dynamic player of the two.
Lee has to get traded soon, seeing some of the contracts handed out this off-season leads me to believe Lee might have negative value and the Knicks might have to attach a second to move him, but if they wait his value is only gonna go down over the course of the season.
