2018-2022 Mahomes, yes. 2023-2024, no.

If there were to be a poll of NFL GMs or head coaches Pat would be the overwhelming winner. The stats not as important as winning games and that mothfuka wins games in the regular season and the playoffs. Constantly steps up in big moments. He has done this time and time again. Lamar ain’t won shyt. What we even talking about in here? The whole premise of this thread is preposterous

One ring isn't putting him even with a Dynasty built around Mahomes breh :mjlol:
I think folks are trying to will shyt into existence.

Lamar winning a ring would guarantee HOF and likely first ballot status. He's not jumping Mahomes until he wins multiple...and the more Mahomes wins, the more Lamar will need to win.

Not sure he needs to match him, but if Mahomes finishes with 4 or 5 rings and Lamar has 1 or 2....it's still gonna be Mahomes >> Lamar unless Pat completely falls off.

Of course if we flip the argument over to Emmitt vs. Barry, most of the Mahomes AND Lamar stans would side with Barry even though Emmitt was the catalyst behind 3 SB's. Brady/Manning/Montana etc., don't get dinged for having great teams around them but we don't apply the same logic to runners.

Those years certainly makes it look like those were Brady's best years playing the position from a regular season statistical standpoint, but from watching him, I would say he played the position the best between 2014-2018, especially in the playoffs.

Check this out. One of the most thorough breakdowns of QB performances I have ever seen!! From 1983-2022

That's an insane amount of data.

The only thing I would dispute is the 'Playoff Accolades' index he used. Marino for instance is negatively impacted because he didn't have as good a team as a lot of QBs in front of him. A lot of QBs listed in front of him are nowhere near as good as he was.

Eh sure but with context they should hold more weight.

It's best to go with playoff performance based on your situation. Brady was > Peyton in this regard, just like Mahomes > Jackson
What makes mahomes better he be putting up pedestrian stats but gets credited for wins

Because it’s a stupid ass logic even me ass a 26 year old cowboys fan knows Barry was better. Using team accomplishments to boost players is dumb.

I completely agree breh. Brady's mastery of the quarterback position was unmatched. His IQ and chemistry with his teammates set him apart, and he demanded that level of connection. That comes from hard work and years of experience. Brady worked at it. that's a maniacal dedication. he never showed up in a camp expecting greatness.

The only thing he lacked was the rocket arm he displayed from 2007 to 2012—and what an incredible arm it was.

This miss to Moss at the end after getting abused by giants D traveled 76 yards due to the angle.

The 2007 season was the epitome of power-pocket quarterbacking at its finest. His throws had incredible zip—so damn underrated. Brady never gets mentioned in the 'arm power' discussion. IMO, he needs to be included especially that 2007 version. Brady from ages 28 to 33 was criminally underrated for his arm talent.

From 2014 till the retirement, his game truly reflected his experience and pocket awareness/presence. He just knew everything like Yoda.

Mahomes is an incredible talent and an outstanding improviser. In my view, he’s more in the Aaron Rodgers mold rather than the Brady/Manning class. The key difference between Rodgers and Mahomes is that Mahomes pulls off those crazy plays far more frequently, making him incredibly tough to beat in the 4th qtr because he’s always got four downs to move the chains. Additionally, Mahomes is much more coachable, whereas Rodgers is an ego maniac who had a reputation for being difficult to work with. He also never had KC's defense.

I believe Mahomes will keep winning, but he still has a lot more to accomplish before I can rank him in Manning's class, let alone Brady's.

@FabTrey good points on Brady! What more would Mahomes need to accomplish to be in Manning and Brady's class?

For me it's more about his growth as a passer, not just accomplishments.

There's definitely room for growth in his game IMO. Improvisation is a valuable skill, but if he continues to rely too heavily on his instincts, I could see him regressing. We saw tremendous growth in Brady's game after he turned 30 when he mastered presnap like manning. For years, Brady didn’t have a true #1 receiver but still found ways to move the chains. Neither Brady nor Manning ever had an offense that looked like the Steelers' offense today. Right now Chiefs offense is closer to Steelers than top tier like Lions or Ravens.

Winning is the most important thing for a QB, and Mahomes has that down. When he has the weapons, he’ll produce, too. He’s a great gamer. But I want to see Mahomes put up points no matter what, master his offense regardless of who he plays with, and put fear into a defense from start to finish. That’s essentially what Brady did. We all know Mahomes is going to come back and make it a game, but I want to see him dominate again.

EVEN?

No wonder you think Peyton is as good as Brady.

Yall over value MVPs too much
At what point did I ever base how I view anybody on their MVPs? The MVPs can be used to support an argument, but I've never set the premise of how I view someone based upon the premise of the trophies they have...

If I did though, that wouldn't be any different than, the scores of people who rank how they view guys based on ring count. Which, I Don't do that either----->hence why I said Lamar is right there with Mahomes, if he gets this championship...

Lamar, thru two consecutive regular seasons, has been a better player, than the best QB of this era. Lamar, in every season he's been healthy and starting throughout, has firmly been arguably the best player in football. The crazy thing about this is there are people who look at '16 Steph and say that drew him even to LeBron, or that the KD years drew him even to LeBron, or that winning post-KD drew him even to LeBron, and in the latter two narratives there is a large onus placed on him tying LeBron's ring count (tied him at 3 in '18; tied him at 4 in '22)...

There's also heavy emphasis on him supposedly dominating "LeBron's era" although he isn't +1 in any category of relevance over LeBron. But me saying Lamar draws even with Mahomes, not even "ahead", is a stretch too far? 🤣

My perception is simply, the best version if Lamar I've seen so far, matches the best versions of Mahomes I saw in the regular season. For Lamar to win a ring in this hypothetical, he's gonna have to play at peak levels and quite possibly go thru Mahomes. Which is why the thread is titled, "a ring away", because while he's closed the gap, he can't draw even to Mahomes with no championship run...

On the Manning thing, it aint about the MVPs. He's the best quarterback I ever saw in regular season football, when he had it going it was just different from everybody else. Brady came on par with him, and surpassed him, later in their careers, but he was a superior player to Brady for many years...

Brady was drafted in '00, became a starter in '01. The championships and the Pats dominating Manning's Colts made it an annual conversation beginning around '04, but he wasn't really close to Manning's dominance of the position until '07. Which was Y8....

Then he missed the entire following season, then was rocky coming back the next year, we're a decade into Brady's career now ('09)...

Brady was awesome in '10 but when Manning missed '11 with the neck injury, there still wasn't a definitive feel that he'd caught Manning in terms of straight mastery and dominance of the position......Brady's postseason runs over the mid-2010s are what catapulted him, kickstarted by his comeback vs the greatest defense ever in the Super Bowl, the same defense that completely beat Manning's shyt in a year earlier...

Brady is a greater QB than Manning, All-Time. 2010s Brady ascended to a degree of domination that 2000s Brady didn't have, and it's a degree of dominance on par with Manning's. But it wasn't that way for a long time and Manning deserves his flowers for that!

Aint got shyt to do with no MVPs 🤣 🤣...
Lamar is about to have 3 MVP's, pleaae stop with this nauseating narrative that he is persona non grata. He has more MVP's than Montana, Marino, Brees, Staubach, and about to equal Favre, Brady and Unitad. Come on now.....
Bruh almost all MVPs are debatable. There are 1-2 each decade that feel undisputed, if that many. Other than that, they are all debated...

And because they are are disputed, Lamar earned his wins. Anybody could argue for someone else deserving it in '19, '23, or '24. I hate when you shyt on Manning's MVPs 🤣 like dog how many MVPs are undisputed? There are very few '07 Brady MVPs...

I agree with you that Lamar isn't really a victim, though!

And the narrative that Mahomes hasn't had great defenses, thanks for exposing the lie. He's almost always had the benefit of an elite, Top 10 defense...
Not true, at all. Mahomes has only had one bad defense(2018). KC scoring defense ranks
2019-7th
2020-10th
2021-8th
2022-16th
2023-2nd
2024-4th(they were 2nd going into the last game which they used to rest. Its a bs narrative that Mahomes has been plagued by bad defenses. He had a bad defense with Bob Sutton in 2018. None of Spags defenses are close to bad. They were good to great to dominant. With one avg year(2022), which was a retooling year on that side, due to the Tyreek trade

This is a fact, and Patrick Mahomes is still better than Lamar Jackson and has proven so during their time in the league. This thread is predicated on some shyt that’s has not even happened yet, which is Lamar winning a ring. Well the facts are he hasn’t won shyt and Pat has won several. Yall just trying to force him to be equal to or better than Mahomes when he simply has not proven he is
