If you go VFR, there are speeds and altitudes that you must follow. There are min safe altitudes for each arrival and departure.

Also, there is GPWS and terrain radar.

This was completely pilot error.

Reports are saying pilot error...it was foggy and he accidentally flew into a hil

I will say pilots need to be more willing to put their foot down when it comes down to flying in fog. Same thing occurred to the LSU's OCs daughter in law a month ago. I can understand the people feeling like they need to rush to get to where they do, or being in these vehicles for so often they don't think twice about it, but the professionals should be professionals and convey the importance
