You're good and much respect. I personally don't like how ultra casual society has become. Where I live everyone is in athleisure. Women think they can wear yoga pants everywhere. Men looking like they rolled out of bed. This is regardless of race.

You just killed your whole thread right here. So you admit that society as a WHOLE dresses down and that men look they rolled out of bed OF ALL RACES! But then want to lecture Black men about not dressing up and wanting to grow up? I would say “make it make sense” but it made sense the whole time...caping for white supremacy.

Black men focus too much on fashion imo

Focus on building together instead.

No other group of men focuses so much of their energy on fashion and materialism as we do.

The real question is why is it so uncommon for black men to work together towards a common goal and purpose. Asians do it. Mexicans do it. Arabs do it. Whites did it. Hyper individualism only works if you already got it like that. And last I check we're at the bottom and falling further and further behind. I doubt our "image" is the common demoninator. Putting on some silly shyt made by a European fashion designers doesn't mean a fukking thing.

Because the US Government at all levels isn’t interfering with their internal politic. As long as those groups get on the anti-Black train, they will be given a lane to rock with in the USA. That’s why we have Asian and LGBT protection executive orders in the first 100 days of the Biden administration but nothing for Black Americans who experience more hate than both groups combined.

I just personally feel like.... in my own personal life experience... black men dress up all the time.

- A black wedding? shyts on a cac wedding in terms of fashion and looking dapper.
- Black men interviewing? Every black man i've interviewed outdresses every cac, 100% of the time
- Going out to dinner or going to a club... the best dressed people in the joint are always black men
- Even when I throw a house party, brehs and brehettes come over dressing sharp, clean

Maybe highschool black men or people who are underemployed don't dress well, but that's an age/class, not a demerit against the entire race.


Every time I'm on TheColi, i feel like my real life experience does not sync up with the topics at hand. I can scroll through my phone and post multiple pics of me and my circle out enjoying life, and we are always dressed well. Black American/Nigerian-American, doesn't matter.

I could just be in a small bubble that doesn't reflect reality tho

I think it's also how we treat each other. You may not rock how another breh moves but trashing him in public is off code. How we treat one another as black men is an extension of image.

Dressing down has become more common - yes but in certain locations. This isn't new. It doesn't mean that it isn't undesirable. People want to dress "ironic" and show up to a wedding in flip flops and shorts that ain't it.

No one is lecturing anyone. It's a discussion. No need to get defensive about it.

The people that passed the crime bill that locked us up wore suits. The people that pumped crack cocaine into our neighborhoods to fund covert wars in Nicaragua wore suits. The people that send 18 year olds to war to still resources from Africa WEAR SUITS!!!! If anything, yall nikkas should be running away from suits cuz that’s the thug attire of the what 400 -500 years?
