It's entirely about cleaning up for white people.
This is all about garnering respect not because you're a fukking fellow human being
but based on your damn slacks or what kinda shoes you got on or if you're sagging your jeans or not.

fukk that.
Just treat PEOPLE RIGHT and for white people JUST DON'T BE A fukkING RACIST.

Dudes tacitly admit they're fine with the status quo every time we talk about this shyt.

Nah breh. We're only doing this to please white people. :lolbron:

The worse thing capitalism ever did was tell people that buying products was a means
of political resistance.

Their whole instagram is about selling suits, it has fukk all to do with black liberation.
The focus of this instagram is to secure that almighty dollar.

1 small thing that bugs me about dudes like KS and others....
Does he ever have a positive thing to say? About anyone? About anything?

In general i'm not a fan of people who can never let a good word escape their mouths.
Generally, the way he works is, for the non famous, if you call in and got yourself all the way together, you don't need his advice. He shows love to other well known bm by name though.

Thank you.

But tbh, the motivation don't matter. A guy might wanna get married for sex reasons, a woman for security. At the end of the day, does it really matter if they both wanna get married? :ld:

You're over thinking it, imo.

The motivation absolutely does matter because if I teach my son that wearing a suit makes him more respectable/approachable/grown/palatable, I’m setting him up for his inevitable “nikka wake up call”. He gonna be the flyest, smartest, sharpest nikka in the office and the white boy he trained that doesn’t dress nearly as well gets the promotion. Or he’s dressed in his nicest suit at the best restaurant in town and treated subpar and is left wondering...well I’m dressed just like everyone else here, what’s the issue....nikka YOU’RE BLACK, THAT’S THE ISSUE...A nikka IN A SUIT.

Your motivation for dressing well needs to be to broadcast your esteem of self, your apparel is the outward manifestation of how you feel about yourself. You can take Jordans and jeans and wear them in a nice, clean, sophisticated, and contemporary manner...I know many people that do and they look just as exquisite as a Chelsea boot type nikka.

When your clothing is an extension of you...then you’re ready to face the world as it comes. If my son wears a suit because it is an outward manifestation of who he is inside, then he’ll be ready when he is in an upscale environment and someone tries to put him “in his place” because he is gonna be Black first not Chelsea boot first.

Dudes like Kevin Samuels use image as a source of self-esteem and that makes your self-esteem paper thin especially when that image in one way, shape, or form is founded in white acceptance.

My self-esteem is present no matter what I wear and White people know I’m a Malcolm X type nikka in all fits...

That's a good point. He wouldnt' be giving advice to those who don't need it

Alright it's about capitalism. You have it all figured out now.

Even though the Flash Mobs don't even charge and he just launched the suit line a few months ago and the IG has been around for over two years.

But you figured it all out. :yeshrug:

I just personally feel like.... in my own personal life experience... black men dress up all the time.

- A black wedding? shyts on a cac wedding in terms of fashion and looking dapper.
- Black men interviewing? Every black man i've interviewed outdresses every cac, 100% of the time
- Going out to dinner or going to a club... the best dressed people in the joint are always black men
- Even when I throw a house party, brehs and brehettes come over dressing sharp, clean

Maybe highschool black men or people who are underemployed don't dress well, but that's an age/class, not a demerit against the entire race.

Every time I'm on TheColi, i feel like my real life experience does not sync up with the topics at hand. I can scroll through my phone and post multiple pics of me and my circle out enjoying life, and we are always dressed well. Black American/Nigerian-American, doesn't matter.

I could just be in a small bubble that doesn't reflect reality tho :yeshrug:

As for the video, I spoke about it here before, but when you dress up and leave the house, whether in a suit, jeans and a blazer, or chinos and a button down with some nice shoes, you just might change your life.

You instantly get respect. People at work will assume you’re the boss. You’ll get promoted, random people will just walk up to talk to you or invite you to events. You’ll also get free shyt from time to time.

This

This "mindset" focused and image obsessed bullshyt is directly from Entrepreneur self help land.

fukking magical thinking which doesn't do shyt in reality.

You dress and think highly of yourself all you fukking want but if the people who do the promoting
don't agree, that entire theory gets shot to hell.

No one can promote you better then YOU.
your self image is your brand, if you look like you dont give a fucc dont expect anyone else too

Wearing a suit is not catering to White sensibilities, you’re being intellectually dishonest. Wearing a suit to counter the media/cultural narrative about you being a no good lazy nikka is what is CATERING TO WHITE SENSIBILITIES. Because if you wear a suit then they just gonna discriminate against you for something else because they hate you cuz you’re Black...everything else is just Jedi Mind Tricks they play.

I dress in skinny jeans, chelsea boots, blazers, slim fit button ups, fedoras, chinos, chino shorts, polos....I do the whole thing but once again I do it FOR ME and not for anyone else. Do I see a difference in my treatment when I dress up vs. gym clothes ABSOLUTELY...but does that make it right? No. Would I advocate everyone dress up in skinny jeans, Chelsea boots, and blazers so that they can get good treatment too? NOOOO!

Why? Because you should be respected no matter what you have on. My bank should not treat me like a shytty thieving ass nikka when I go there with gym clothes on...checking my signature card and all kinds of stupid but then treat me right when I have on a suit. That’s my whole point...because when you allow that treatment then it makes it easy for White people to move the goal posts.

Ok we agree that Jordans and Jeans are persona non-grata and now Chinos and Chelsea boots are required to look presentable...guess what White people gonna do...change the game again and say that CHinos and Chelsea boots are nikka clothes and hate on you for that. Then you’re on a treadmill constantly changing your attire to be presentable and grown.

I’m all about us elevating but we have to elevate on our own terms.

We have no terms to elevate on because we still have dysfunction. We need to be on code and be a guide to the next generation coming up and have some sense when we’re are just dressing ourselves. Bringing standards back, implementing standards from our brehs in Africa.

The goal post is always going to get moved, but i think we can atleast do the bare minimum in putting some effort in our appearance. Showing we have class and changing and funding black imagery is the bottom line.

He based this on the movie Birth of a Nation which led to misconceptions about the black race as a whole. He never linked dressing better to better race relations but as a side point he mentioned dressing to improve your image and how others initially perceive you. He also talked about an article that showed how a breh in LA did an experiment and dressed differently on different days and was treated better when he dressed better.

A Black Man Wore Different Kinds Of Clothing To See If People Treated Him Differently

One of the few people that watched the damn video before running to the Coli to post nonsense. Thank you.

This thread is shyt.

I think Black men that are into dressing up shyt on white people for the most part. This is why I'm saying THIS AIN'T ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE. I don't give a fukk what they dress like. Some wear flip flops and cargo shorts everywhere. You won't catch me in that bullshyt.

I dress up for me and how it makes me feel. It's about putting my best foot forward. It will elicit a response either way.

You must live in the UK or an East Coast city or something.

Could be your location. You may see it in Atlanta some but if I go to the DMV or something I see it all the time.

We can't keep comparing pre civil rights era/1950-60's america to now.
STFU.

I remember this one time we were going to enrol in some exclusive club in Central London as part of my job (Royal Yacht Club in Knightsbrige). We usually dressed in business suits at my job but that day I made sure I had that ultra conservative look.

Two-Buttons-Black-Wool-Suit-6959.jpg

I was living in a majority cac suburb and as I walked to take the train to London, some cac lady and her young daughter were coming up the road. There was a look of absolute terror on her face when she saw me, she grabbed her kid and hurriedly crossed the road.. They were nearly hit by a car too.

That's when it hit me like a ton of bricks.. It doesn't matter how you dress, how well educated or well spoken. To these people, you're still a n*gger, a dangerous beast to be avoided.

I agree with everything you said. I dont dress up for cacs, I dress up for myself and to represent my family. But i was just comparing it to cacs just cuz I needed a reference point.

And I also agree, location matters. You are 100% correct, and i'm tripping, my bad. Cuz when I lived in Tulsa... those Oklahoma brehs dressed like shyt, and it was noticeable :francis:

This is also my experience. The only time I see dusty and crusty black men is when I’m in dusty crusty areas...outside of that “we be dressin’.”

IF someone is RACIST, you can dress nice, show up to work on time, stay late, work THE HARDEST.
Yo' ass is GOING NOWHERE.

That is REALITY FOR MANY PEOPLE.

Again, putting THE ONUS ON THE VICTIM IS TACITLY ADMITTING THAT THIS STATUOS QUO IS FINE
AND "WE" ARE THE PROBLEM.
