Okay.

You’ve made your declaration.

Now post the data from the past 30 years that supports that, and I’ll shut up and move on.

How many of these Black men were killed in a suit?

Im not arguing what’s righteous or fair. It’s strictly an analytical discussion.
Why the 30 year qualifier? Black men have been murdered by police in various circumstances so I don’t see how what they wore had any meaningful insight.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
As for the video, I spoke about it here before, but when you dress up and leave the house, whether in a suit, jeans and a blazer, or chinos and a button down with some nice shoes, you just might change your life.

You instantly get respect. People at work will assume you’re the boss. You’ll get promoted, random people will just walk up to talk to you or invite you to events. You’ll also get free shyt from time to time.

They don’t want to listen tho

The op and nikkas that think like him the worst kinda of c00n

He has embraced white society so much he thinks wearing a suit is high fashion or "dressing his best"

How u want better for black men by telling us to act and dress the way crackas said is respectful attire

Do u even see that?
Nikkas think they can win in a game where white ppl make and change the rules to an unfair game they came up with

I personally think suitsupply puts together some great outfits. check their IG page.

My style is on the preppy side, so when I was figuring what worked for me I went to Pinterest and searched for preppy styles and that really helped. That was years ago though, I’m not aware of any particular resources for men’s fashion.

Suit supply is great

I agree with everything you said. I dont dress up for cacs, I dress up for myself and to represent my family. But i was just comparing it to cacs just cuz I needed a reference point.

And I also agree, location matters. You are 100% correct, and i'm tripping, my bad. Cuz when I lived in Tulsa... those Oklahoma brehs dressed like shyt, and it was noticeable :francis:

You're good and much respect. I personally don't like how ultra casual society has become. Where I live everyone is in athleisure. Women think they can wear yoga pants everywhere. Men looking like they rolled out of bed. This is regardless of race.

I also have to attribute to my upbringing and what my parents instilled in me. I recall one time I was on a video at a tech job I had previously and I wear a hoodie and track pants to work and they got onto me. :mjlol:

shyt everyone else was doing it so why not me? People in that location assumed if you had a pair of jeans on and a button down you were 'dressed up'.

I do incorporate more casual attire in my wardrobe but I like something interchangeable where I can dress up or down. I personally like the idea of personal style and pushing the image you want. Depending on your social circles that could mean different things. I know some HBCU brehs that tell me they had to wear suits, blazers, etc to class everyday.

My now girlfriend met me a few years back when a breh and I were out rocking suits and graphic tees underneath with sneakers. We hit up a Gala then hit the town. She approached me because I stood out. Used it to my advantage and it worked. :yeshrug:

So brehs is supposed to wear sports jackets and have their shirts tucked in when going to the supermarket or sporting goods store, foh.

If motherfukkas is dressing like that appease white folk or look less intimidating, you got a lot to learn.

One thing about preaching to the black community is that some our people take everything so literally.

Nobody should be wearing a 3 piece shyt to go grocery shopping but if you are in a position where you have to look good then boss up!

The 30 year qualifier was mentioned because the Rodney King beating was released on video 30 years ago. We’re in the Information Age where a lot more of these violations have been caught on video.

This whole discussion is rooted in image.

I don’t see images of Black men in suits getting fukked up by the police on the news every night. Not saying it doesn’t occur. But why isn’t that the image?

The motivation absolutely does matter because if I teach my son that wearing a suit makes him more respectable/approachable/grown/palatable, I’m setting him up for his inevitable “nikka wake up call”.
False dichotomy. My man wears brooks brothers and still know who he is.

You can take Jordans and jeans and wear them in a nice, clean, sophisticated, and contemporary manner
Its not about "nice, clean". Its about dressing like children/ teens. Why is this not clear?

So you believe that if more black men wore suits then what?

Black men focus too much on fashion imo

Focus on building together instead.

No other group of men focuses so much of their energy on fashion and materialism as we do.

The real question is why is it so uncommon for black men to work together towards a common goal and purpose. Asians do it. Mexicans do it. Arabs do it. Whites did it. Hyper individualism only works if you already got it like that. And last I check we're at the bottom and falling further and further behind. I doubt our "image" is the common demoninator. Putting on some silly shyt made by European fashion designers wont produce a fukking thing. You're just a member of racial group in steep deline in a $500 outfit.

Makes no difference.

Only a weak superficial man believes his attire will lessen his 'Blackness' and white people will love you and not shoot on sight.

Agreed however it's not about lessening your blackness...this is about US, not white people

Do you think the nation of Islam brothers wear suites to please white people?
